Short answer, people are stupid assholes.
Long answer, because nuance is a skill that you have to learn, and we live in a society that doesn’t value it and basically hates it. Nuance has no place in 15 second video clips, that THE dominant form of media consumption for younger people.
The only place I find nuance is in long-form media. But most folks don’t consume it anymore, so it’s not a part of their life anymore. It simple doesn’t exist for them… but what does exist is a media/education environment where everything is a personal grievance and your stupid and wrong and bad if you don’t agree with them.
Like take any nuance on any controversial issue here, and you will get blasted by both sides as being evil, because they both think their side is the only good one. And then they will try to report and get you banned, naturally. Because all nuance must be destroyed.
I dunno, personally I found everything, internet, social media, and real life, to have way more nuance and understanding and positivity, than it does today. But the crazies really took over most media and their voices are far more loud and often push to the extremes as to become hypocritical parodies.
The solution to your problem is to just hire custodial staff to clean up the mess so there are no ants… but that’s too pragmatic a solution for the world in 2026, and the right wingers would tell you that’s horrible because it’s government job stealing their tax money, and the left wingers would tell that the janitor must be a racial and sexual minority or you are perpetuating white patriarchal oppression.

the issue is most people just emotionally react.
