  • It really just isn’t possible for most ooffice buildings. Think about how many bathrooms/kitchenettes are on a floor of any office building. You would have to likely double or triple that number to convert to housing, which is an absolutely insane and expensive prospect that would require gutting the entire building and resoing the entire plumbing and electric systems. It’s chraper to jist tear the fuckers down and build something made for condos/apartments.

  • I know a family that has 3 kids, one with a medical condition. Dad’s a high school wrestling coach and mom os a nurse. They crunched the numbers and found that childcare cost them $50 a month more than what mom was working, so she quit her job to take care of her kids. This is in rural Ohio, where childcare costs more than college. A nurse was literally paying for the privilege of having a terrible amd stressful job. It would be hilarious watching the powers that be keep redefining what a recession/depression was to avoid labeling our economy as being in one if ot wasn’t for the fact that we are all struggling because of it.

  • I think most space faring civilizations would orient themselves to the the local system they are in. Same way that maps of Manhattan are always rotated 29 degrees so the avenues are running up and down the page. Out in interstellar space i think a ship would orient to the galactic plane just for the ease of navigation. It’s a lot easier for the navigator to plot a course if the ship is already oriented to their maps, e en if the computer does a lot automatically.

But I don’t think mamy ships would spend much time hanging out in interstellar space. There is just way too much nothingness coupled with a shit ton of radiation since you are no longer being protected by local solar wind

Edit: this is all assuming FTL travel. I think the expanse probably does thing things closest to reality with the bulky skyscraper shaped ships that creat artificial gravity from acceleration. They don’t have much in the way to really orient to anything since “up” is the direction of travel.
