But tbh, I don’t use it much, because even on macOS, I found it sluggish. YMMV though, so I’ll try to be helpful soon.
If need be, you may find some free/cheap alternatives to NI instruments in DecentSampler.

The advice I’ve heard from other music freelancers is try to be helpful whenever you can manage it. What allowed me to start receiving clients was getting to know people in my kinda scene and telling people it’s something I enjoy doing. Once I had a few accessible examples of my work I could point to, I started receiving more inquiries. Start offering your services to friends or peers you admire. You don’t have to be sales-y, just offer it as a way you can help them should the need arise.
BerenstainsMonster@kbin.earthto Music Production@sh.itjust.works•red rakes - perfecteeth [recorded, mixed, and performed by me (except drums). I would love some feedback!]3·1 month agoThat intro was so fucking cool!
I really like how the guitars are mixed. The stereo field is really pleasant.
If I were mixing this, I’d wanna hear a little more bass, around ~50-100Hz. I might cut a few dB from the guitars around 200Hz to let the bass have some space.
I’d also prefer to hear the drums more upfront than they are. I wanna feel that kick and snare transient bursting out the speakers.
Granted, I don’t listen to a lot of this kind of music, so my tastes may not be your own. :)
The whole mix is a very nice, warm vibe. Really enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

AudioThing and TAL have some handy freebies.
There’s a whole treasure trove in Airwindows’ stuff.
I get a lot of use from Reaper’s stock plugins, particularly the EQ, compressor, and limiter.
Reaper users can also help themselves to community-made JSFX.
Vital is my go-to synth.
Cardinal synth is super powerful and a fun can of worms.
BerenstainsMonster@kbin.earthto Music Production@sh.itjust.works•How to get this effect in music?4·2 months agoOo thanks for sharing the cool music.
For the strxwberrymilk example, it sounds like just a chopped and screwed dialogue. What I would do to imitate it is chop up a sample of dialogue and import each slice into a sampler on different pads/keys, that way I can “play” the part in that I like. (Alternatively, you can arrange it on the grid too, dragging and dropping slices.) I might follow that with a formant shifter for that kinda chipmunk sound.
Similar thing for the BoC reference: but it sounds like some of the slices are very short and loop, creating that stuttering, robotic sound, almost oscillating in the audible range. It also sounds like the part is also being panned around the stereo field. I might add flanger to capture the psychedelic feel too.

BerenstainsMonster@kbin.earthto Music Production@sh.itjust.works•Anyone knows what effect is it on vocal 5:25?6·3 months agoSounds to me kinda like a heavily distorted bitcrusher. That’s what I’d do if I was trying to recreate it. It sounds like what I remember the stock Logic bitcrusher sounding like. But I wonder if it’s not just a shitty mic overdriving a shitty preamp.
And in post, they’ve panned it moving from one side to another in the stereo field.

In Reaper, you can tab to transient, which might be helpful for cutting things in rhythm, since the downbeat usually has got a big transient.

BerenstainsMonster@kbin.earthto The Democratic People's Republic of Tankiejerk@lemmy.world•MAOISTS AND STALINISTS ONLY IN MY GOOD TANKIE COMM4·5 months agoMao is a joke to me. The above quote (which is his) goes on to say, “In present circumstances, revisionism is more pernicious than dogmatism.”
So…
Mao: Marxism is universally true. Also Mao: Dogmatic Marxism is bad. Also Mao: Anything post-Marxism is revisionism, which is also bad.
If you can get through it, read On Contradiction to see just how many back-flips he does to make Marx’s “dialectical materialism” into something that is neither dialectical nor material but a metaphysical fact of our world and all human progress (as if that’s not revisionism).
