Quick work! I was just trying to round up some interest from my fellow Canberrans 😅

Let me find something worthy of an inagural post

For what it is worth it was a great day out. Tasty food and people running around in dino and unicorn costumes. What more could you need ?

Thanks for the tips!

I know what you mean and it will of course be an uphill battle but I want to believe in Lemmy and cut one of my last ties to centralised social media.

Yeah it is a verrry active subreddit! Between the federal and state public services there are a lot of employees.

The AusUnion one is also a good community. The Members United caucus contesting the public service union (CPSU) election is doing an AMA there next week.

I guess the flip side is that there is no community for it anywhere on the fediverse at the moment and most people aren’t going to take the initiative to create one. So you kinda don’t know until we try.

If you aren’t in the public service you might not realise how big the subreddit is and the potential for a Lemmy community. I’m happy to take the L and fold it if it doesn’t take off.

And yeah happy to moderate. I am an active union delegate in the APS and I think healthy and productive discussion of the APS is one of the best ways to ensure it remains accountable and employee conditions are preserved.

I’m happy to cover funds through some kind of https://buymeacoffee.com/ like subscription.

Also happy to help with administration if you don’t find any takers but I am also generally quite busy with various community groups so I don’t have the most amount of free time to devote to it.

I am replying on Lemmy =p

Unfortunately some communities haven’t moved off of Reddit yet so I straddle still.

This was pretty fun. It reminds me of dontwordle.com

Oh wow, a collapsible friends list???

I’m uninstalling Steam as we speak now the feature we have all been waiting for is in Epic.

Reddit have also announced their plan to go logged in only.

Combine the requirement to register to see anything with the age verification and you have a lot of people who will never visit your site again.

They are going to see a massive dropoff in readership from Australia. Luckily my accounts haven’t required verification so far but if they did I guess I’ll never visit reddit again.

Is this… news? Everyone gets swooped - it is unaustralian not to be swooped.

I don’t really read the ABC front page anymore but I was surprised to see it filled with these kinds of filler pieces when I looked at it recently.

Thanks! I hadn’t heard of this book and it seems like something I should check out.

For everyone else the author has released it free (but you can also buy physical if you want) https://labourdialectics.org/

You can see it on mobile browser. Your client might not expose it.

I wanted to love the socialists party but every event I just got hit by SocAlt members regurgitating their talking points and I realised the party is not full of my kind of Socialists.

I have nothing against the party or SocAlt but I just don’t fit the niche they are trying to steer the party in. I would still be very happy to see them get someone elected and push Australian politics in the general right direction though.

It is an exciting time for The Greens under Shoebridge and I am very interested to see how the direction of the party goes from here. He is already backing some much more exciting policy than I have seen from The Greens for a while.

I was tempted to head to Adelaide but will dial in instead this time. I haven’t yet heard of any arrangements but I assume there will probably be a watch party at most state offices too.

I have wondered if “breeding kink” is really a kink in the way we usually use the term or it is just our animal instincts compelling us to reproduce which some people supress better than others.

Yup, it is no longer the race that stops a nation.

I find most people are indifferent these days. If it wasn’t a public holiday in Victoria I think it would slip into obscurity.

If you use VLC or some other capable player it’ll automatically pick up the subtitles if they have the same name (sans extension).

Are you from the distant future? I have never heard anyone call Python 3.12 just Python 12.
