6·1 month agoI agree with you COVID didn’t radicalize anyone. It just so happened to occur at the same time as Trump and other countries as they took a turn towards fascism. Antiscience and anti intellectualism go with the fascist playbook. They used COVID as a kind of red herring. COVID, trans people, Muslims, border, aliens. It would have been something no matter what.

2·1 month agoAndrew Jackson did not have close to the backing from the supreme Court Trump has. They basically said if the president does it, it can not be wrong. Jackson ignored rulings, Trump doesn’t even have to do that. Trump controls the courts. We progressed to a degree even worse than Jackson.

News@lemmy.world•White House circulating blatantly illegal draft emergency order to take control of elections
63·1 month agoIt wasn’t a dig. All those things you mentioned were not straight up authoritarianism, they were in part by the largest group voting group getting their way. That’s what the voters want. It was extremely shitty stuff and I never said it wasn’t. Just because these happened doesn’t mean it was because of authoritarianism. We slowly evolved getting better over time, but now we are regressing. And it will be extremely difficult to vote our way out of it, even when the majority of eligible voters want to. In no time in our Constitutional history has so much power been under one man.

News@lemmy.world•White House circulating blatantly illegal draft emergency order to take control of elections
45·1 month agoIt wasn’t necessary athoritarian previously. It was really following the will of the people of the time. Essentially white dudes voting in white dudes to protect their shitty interests. That is not where the majority of the population is now. Society has shifted beyond where the government is, that is why they are trying to control the voting process.

301·1 month agoThis would be the end of a free USA. Real authoritarianism. The end. Fake elections from here on, just like Russia, Venezuela, etc. We are screwed if this happens. The fascists are winning.

Technology@lemmy.world•New nickel-iron battery charges in seconds, survives 12,000 cyclesEnglish
7·2 months agoTwo important parts of a battery are how much energy it can store in a certain space and how much it weighs. If it is bigger and holds the same amount of energy that might be ok for a non mobile storage if it costs less, like a house. If it weighs more for a certain energy that wouldn’t be useful for cars and mobile things but might be ok for small things where the weight is negligible anyway. For cars you want a small energy dense battery that is light as possible

23·2 months agoWoke has been around. It had a resurgence during the BLM era. The right latched on to the word and use it negatively, but it isn’t their word and they didn’t create it. If they want to use it, fine, but they don’t own it. And better yet throw it back in their faces.

People still read classic books, watch classic movies, go to see classical art and listen to classical music. Why would video games as an entertainment art form be any different?
