Nowhere Else To Share@sh.itjust.works•Number bases done differently (just something i thought of)
1·9 days agoOnly limit to the digits is what’s used as a common base.
If I was making it a programming library, it would only support base 10, and common programming bases like base 16, 8, and 2.
And base 12 (for clocks and old civilizations), base 20 (Kaktovik and Old French), base 60 (Babylonian).
And maybe also base 64 (for encoding purposes), and base 40 (someone might use this somewhere).
Actually it can theoretically support any natural number of digits, even approaching infinity. (Except for 1 which is just tally marks)

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Y'all are so weird here... and I love it!
2·15 days agoRiding the bus down the boulevard, and the place was pretty packed!
Couldn’t get a seat so I had to stand, with the perverts in the back!
It was smelling like a locker room, there was junk all over the floor!
We’re already packed in like sardines, and we’re stopping to pick up more!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it possible to have an internet without the Javascript ?
2·15 days agoUse Ublock Origin. Go to settings and check “Disable Javascript”.
Some sites may not work, so you might need to re-enable for those ones.
Other sites have Cloudflare CAPTCHAs, and you need to enable JS to get past them, but once you get through, you can turn on the JS blocker again.

Nine rings for the mortal men doomed to die?
Exclamations I used to say:
“Big black bats!” - something to do with Batman or something?
“Great Qubits!” - I liked quantum physics, because I didn’t understand itInsults and exclamations I say now:
“Eat a (some kind of weapon)!” - Fancy way to tell someone “kill yourself”. Like “Eat a grenade”, “Eat a gun”
Random syllables that sound like Klingon mixed with Slavic and Hebrew - I speak none of those languages, but still say stuff like “Vzer krakh!” when I get annoyed by popups.
“Koskenkorva!” - the Finnish vodka-like drink. I don’t even drink that.Breaking the “non-religous” constraint, because i want to:
“Jesus Christ in a tank!” - In response to something very surprising that I can’t rememberSaving the best for last: Captain Haddock interjections.
“Ten thousand thundering typhoons!”
“Billions of bilious blue blistering barnacles!”
“Addlepated lumps of anthracite!”
“Antediluvian bulldozer!”
“Bashi-bazouks!”
“Pompous popinjay!”
“Pockmark!”

Dragons@pawb.social•[Media Request] Any dragons media where dragons are not treated as horrible fire breathing blood thirsty monsters?
2·1 month agoMain recommendation: Meadowhawk! It’s about cute dragons living in modern society.
Alternate recommendation, maybe not so accurate: Wings of Fire, a fantasy book series. The dragons are intelligent, and they are the main protagonists. It is geared toward younger readers, but there is a lot of war and violence for that group. However, since you don’t prefer reading text, you could read the graphic novel series, which has the more violent parts toned down or removed.

You shouldn’t try making chemistry jokes anyways, all the good ones argon
