Battling corruption is something that never stops the second people go to sleep it continues unabated. Its not a war you can win, its an endless battle.

Democracy is first about making demands and unless we want somebody telling politicians our needs on behalf of us (almost always a corporation or the wealthy trying to do this) just voting and then going to sleep is a recipe for corruption. Its how we got here.

You have to elect politicians AND make demands of them, else the squeaky billionaire gets the grease.

Like if you rationally examine things its clear voting does matter, just not as much as people are lead to believe.

Edit: as an analogy, voting is like the down payment on democracy. If you want real democracy you need strikes and organizing etc which is the bulk of the payments.

It doesn’t quite work like that. Nobody needs a “leftist alex jones” or an "ai swarm of leftist bots’ and in terms of tech and money you just can’t compete with right wing power. Lies are easier to fabricate than truths. Trust is easier to destroy than build.

We do need information networks that work and the left has a lot of people willing to volunteer, etc.

I honestly think just going door to door and asking people if there’s anything local people should know about and then compiling frequent concerns, or notable local stories into newsletters would be far more effective than anything else.

Local journalism. There’s no money in it at the moment but the work is not incredibly complicated.

My guess is there’s other crimes/compliance failures going on.

There’s no “Big company left CEOs”. The megacorp model is inherently rightwing - democratizing workplaces makes it difficult for a single person to run a large company.

I feel so validated by this. The root cause of this though is capitalism.

But yeah we also need stricter laws about corporate speech and ownership and how to protect the public from these kind of schemes.

Once we have a case where AI fabricated evidence is used to convict somebody it will also get much easier to dismiss a lot of this data. I still get ads for dogfood for a dog I don’t own.

I know corporations can handsomely reward unscrupulous scientists but more often than not they do not effectively use the data they’re amassing.

Lowkey I think anyone saying LLMs are useful for work is telling everyone around them their job is producing mostly low quality work and could reasonably be cut.

My dad’s a mechanic, most cars get junked at engine failure because it requires a ton of labor to rebuild an old engine. While there are a lot of parts, pulling an IC engine out for repare is not a cheap task.

Like battery tech tends to improve over time. It being both the major constraint with the cars and the most frequent large replaced part means there’s a chance that when you do swap the batteries out your vehicle range increases beyond its original range. Imo thats a selling point.

One of the reasons auto dealerships hate EVs is they are cheaper to maintain (about 2/3 the cost) and are projected to have much longer vehicle life spans since there’s no internal combustion engine to fall apart.

This means repeat sales and service for EVs is substantially lower for electric vehicles. Imo if auto dealerships think they’ll make less money on EVs that suggests they think EVs are actually the long term affordable option.

I don’t think schools have that kind of authority, nor should they. What people do on their own time though…
