  • Based on work polls taken by me out of curiosity, a disturbingly high amount of people think they could go off grid and live off the land and do half decent. One even considered getting a tent and trying to live on some abandoned field at some point and still considered it viable. None of these people would survive the winter. I wouldn’t either. I got to live on basically was a kilometer of absolute diet cheap old farm property with essentially bag end from the Peter Jackson LOTR movies as the house. And even under those circumstances where we got some crops rocking as beat we could by hand, which is incredibly labor intensive and burns mad calories which are what you’re trying to get from this food later, there is no fucking way we’d have any solid nutrition to last when things don’t grow, we could pickle stuff and if we weren’t vegetarian salt some meats if we were trying to live like the family from the VVitch and maayyybe manage and that’s cause of our insualted house. Same people thought that diseases set aside they could go back to mideval times and do okay cause they understand the mideval period as the early modern period combined with fantasy elements. They think they could make useful modern inventions with the material available to them and skills or lack thereof they possess and then can’t name a single thing they could make. They wouldn’t even understand English at the time.

  • Folks, my co-worker won’t accept my old air conditioner because it’s a window mounted one and he ‘doesn’t know how to install it’ and when I explained that he said ‘he’s never taken a screen out of a window’. It was 40 degrees on Thursday and this dude preferred dealing with that than figuring out something super easy. Something like a fan works very intuitively until you get to.the parts thst can’t be accessed via normal tools, but it’s just a motor and a rotor, so.great example. But yeah, be a person that at least takes something apart and has a look before disposing of stuff, unless a circuit board is involved (and sometimes that stuff isn’t too hard either) a lot of basic tools generally just have a bunch of shit caked on the inside. And if the thing isn’t working good anyway you’re not really that much worse for the wear.

  • So today was the last day of my very young Japanese co worker before maternity leave. The general consensus is the whole situation is fucked and we genuinely hope won’t last long and are making plans for a safety net already. Her soon to be husband that knocked her up is 57, she’s 22. He met her during judo classes when she was 15 and I guess immediately started dating her at 18 No good but there’s really not much to do about it Anyway on top of all.that this dude is a complete fucking moron. I guess he quit a $30/hrs job cause it was ‘stressful’ while she’s working kitchens up to a week before dropping a baby, he also was trusted with getting a car cause she figured he knew cars. Dude went to a fucking dealership to get one and only did a $500 down payment. So she’s been pissed. At the same time we were joking about baby names and I suggested Shinji (she’s an Eva fan), said her weird creepy dude could get some sunglasses and pay too much in interest for an EVA.
