Man those quotes from Chris Hays in the article hit hard.
I think I need to watch the video they are from tonight.

I don’t think it makes any sense either:
The only positive is that the energy will be cheap, and that the computers are safe except from nation state actors and untracked space debris.
I lean towards this being a narrative for the markets. Space Exploration Technologies Corp. claimed a 370 billion USD total addressable market (TAM) in space enabled solutions, and a 26.5 trillion USD TAM for AI in their S-1 filing before going public. They state within that their goal over time is to launch 100 gigawatts of compute to space each year.
By making the claim that this would be worthwhile they present themselves as uniquely positioned to profit from this situation. Moreso than other AI compute companies or other rocket launch companies.
By the way, regarding integration, I just learned from a colleague last week that he uses emacs for editing remote files too. You can just open a file as:
/method:user@host:filename, with method being ssh or ftp for example
https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Remote-Files.html
linus buying a private jet
Wow, thanks, I didn’t know that.
Before he was just mildly annoying and not something I wanted to watch.
Now he’s confirmed as an asshole, who must not be supported, from my perspective.
Deposit at a hotel? I haven’t seen that before.

Isn’t the very definition of a household chore that it’s a recurring task related to cleaning or preparing things at home?
That’s what happened to Meryl Streep while they were working on Don’t Look Up

Is it just me or is it kind of disgustingly shaped?
Guess you’d want the blade down for transport.
1280 × 720 was “HD ready”
1920 × 1080 was “Full HD”
I always thought “HD ready” was a bit of a marketing scam.

If the poor pay relatively more than the rich that sounds like anti-social security to me
Well I haven’t changed the tools I use (DeepL and Google Translate), but I assume they built in LLMs in the back end.

I don’t get it, why are there people on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021?
If you were going to do that why not choose Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021?
Hahah that’s great.
Hm this is Sim City 2000, no? I wonder if I played this. I think it looks a little more like Roller Coaster Tycoon than the one I remember. Maybe I played Sim City 3000.
Or I mixing everything up with Industriegigant. Help, I’m getting older.
Yes, I’m using the single-character, CJK-fullwidth forms for cm³, ml, cc to achieve vertical alignment
That’s kind of hot
The only use for machine learning I have is translation software, which was getting pretty good already before the LLM hype. Assuming I’d get that back at the pre-hype levels I’d have zero impact.
I only use it for checking how it would propose to formulate a sentence in French, but then I write my own anyway. Since it would be weird to pretend that was my level of skill towards the customer. Or sometimes I translate back my wobbly French to see if I went really wrong or ran into some false friends (terms that sound similar among the languages but have different meaning).
It’s like consulting the Chess Engine for the engine move to me.
If this software too vanished, then I’d just have to use the online dictionaries even more. And be even slower, but who cares this is only once every few weeks, anyway. Most French speaking Swiss are fine with English in text form too.
Yeah it seems to be a feature of the text editor, it already replaced the combination of input characters with the proper singular output character when I used the preview feature.
For context: The footer of my home instance says that it’s running Lemmy 0.19.20 at the moment, which is the latest stable version. Milan Ihl is good about keeping us up to date.

Wenn der Digitalminister von den Freien Wählern ist, warum will er dann keine Freie Software?
Edit: Ich glaube ich habe ihm unrecht getan, er scheint es zu wollen, aber Probleme mit der CSU zu haben

I hope they earned about three fiddy from the copper that was in the cameras
I don’t think this is likely to be gaming related.
That’s a 15 year old efficiency trimmed 32bit ARMv7-A CPU.
