Fingers crossed.

Signalis. It’s gas become one of my favourite games, maybe THE favourite game. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking.

His thrashings would be funny if I wasn’t trapped in this hell of a coutry. At this point, I barely have any hope of surviving. I just want to scream.

Frankly, at this point I always assume that a given American mainstream public figure holds abhorrent views. Sometimes I get pleasantly surprised, but not as often as I’d like.

Just tucking collapse. Please. This war drives me to severe depression, I feel like a prisoner in what used to be my home. I’m already seriously considering sawing my leg off, just to have a chance of escaping this horrorshow of a country.

I keep telling myself that the bastards don’t have it in them to last more than a few months at thus point. I’m so tired of being stuck in this horrible place, I can’t take it anymore. But sometimes it feels like this war will go on for years and years…

Honestly, I don’t think they’re capable of taking over anything. They’re brutes and bandits, nothing more.

That’s why I don’t use Windows, even in a dualboot setup. If a game doesn’t run in proton, U can live without it.

You’re right, if course. But being trapped in a fascist country for 2.5 years, I have dim views of the perspectives of this nation, as well as my own. At this point, all that I feel towards this place, as well as people who gleefuly support turning it into what it has become, is deep resentment. I, personally, intend to leave it at the first opportunity and never step on Ukrainian soil again. That is, of course, if I won’t get buried in it.

Ukraine as a nation is dead.

It’s only now that people here start to open their eyes to the reality of things, but a lot of them are still blinded by the rabid hatered of Russians. By this point, I think it’s to late, the fascist government has the stranglehold on the people, strip-mining the country of money and human beings for the war effort, before inevitably jumping ship. Frankly, I don’t believe there’s any hope for Ukraine as a state and for Ukrainian people. Not in the nearest decades, at least.

To be honest, we Russian native speakers drop “v” there pretty often too.

All the actual left has either fled the country, went underground or died. As any fascist government, Ukrainian one first came for communists.

LGBTQ Ukrainians are between a rock and a hard place now. For all the governmental posturing about how progressive it is, very little actual progress has been made, and its being curbed by nazis at every step. Still, the LGBTQ community staunchly supports the current nazi government like a good liberals they are.

It’s worth noting that the book Joker grows out of his obedience to the empire and gets to know and relate to the people he has come to Vietnam to kill. The movie doesn’t explore the second book of the duology (despite borrowing some imagery from it), where the consequences of serving the empire come back to bite Joker in the ass and, ostensibly, make him a better person.

All in all, I like the books a whole lot better.

It’s a really interesting time period, and it’s such a shame that the game turned out to be an utter garbage.

Well, there are some anti-communist tones in the portrayal of the game’s setting, but ultimately neither the characters nor the game itself doesn’t have much to say about the politics. Its themes are much more personal, and the politics are mentioned only in passing. The DDR aesthetic is a set dressing.

But it does fuck.

Edit: I should also mention that the aesthetics at least partly come from the 1970s DDR sci-fi flick “Signale”, which I didn’t watch. Maybe they’re just the authors channeling their childhoods?

Signalis

Signalis very quickly became one of my favourite games of all times. In the end it turned out less anti-communist than I initially feared, mostly due to it’s story being not really about politics.

I definitely simp for the space DDR though.

The indie sector is also keeping it mostly lean. No other game has made me cry like Signalis did, and it’s less than a gig.
