I remember the time I had a good pear. I actually thought it was a different fruit.

I limit myself to one or two “new full price” purchases a year, and it’s usually games from known devs i want to support that I’m excited about.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is Dungeon Meshi worth it if I'm not into anime?
41·12 days agoHonestly, the only way you’ll know is to try. I don’t normally go for a lot of new anime, but I really enjoyed some of Dungeon Meshi.

4·12 days agoHey look how about some sympathy for the gun owner here? He accidentally pointed a loaded weapon at a loved one while having a heated argument, and the gun felt scared and accidentally went off! By accident!
Really, that poor gun owner might be scared to point a loaded weapon at a loved one again! Don’t victim blame the poor owner!
I remember when the welders at my shop started coming in with skinny pants, they all looked like bearded trapezoids. I mean, they’re allowed to wear whatever they want, i didn’t mock them beyond the normal amount, but it was weird looking.
Don’t forget the unofficial Canadian motto during war: “It’s not a war crime the first time”.

6·15 days agoI was a huge fan of Tesla originally. I remember before the roadster, there was all this talk of open sourcing the platform so other manufacturers could build their own EVs.

14·19 days agoCalling the republicans bluff on this one is a strong move. In a sane world with consequences it would almost guarantee his safety. Since this world has no consequences, republicans will probably just subpoena him for a behind-closed-door court and only release things that implicate him or other Democrats.

Technology@lemmy.world•The TV industry finally concedes that the future may not be in 8KEnglish
1·25 days agoYeah, all my inputs go to the tv, then i run a wire to the receiver. This makes it so my ps5 and PC are plugged directly to the tv so i can get different resolutions are variable refresh rate and the tv can control the receiver. So when I turn something on, the tv/receiver turn on and set themselves to matching settings, Dolby, stereo, whatever. Its not huge but its a nice convinienice over the older optical connection.

37·26 days agoTheres a ton of other things I want my TV to do before more pixels.
Actual functional software would be nice, better tracking on high speed shots (in particular sweeping landscapes or reticles in video games) higher frame rates and variable frame rate content, make the actual using of the tv, things like changing inputs or channels faster, oh man so much more.
Anything but more pixels.
My university had the head of cyber security for a bank over to talk about pen testing, and one of the questions he got was “What Linux distro do you use at home.” He said Ubuntu, because he wants a system that’s stable and has support. If it works, it works.

Clicks Communicator•Reservation made. I think it's gonna be a great little device.
3·1 month agoYeah, Apple doesn’t need your money to guarantee development and they already know how many phones they’re going to sell.
My partner and I both have Clicks keyboards on RAZR phones, and we have the same complaint: the camera placement stops this from making the phone 100% useable in closed mode.
Heck, I actually broke my inside screen and it took two weeks before I had to replace it since i was able to do everything i use my phone for on the outside (using Bluetooth for calls).
I had a friend who was high up in a refinery years ago, and he once explained to me that many parts of the refining process are held separate as an artifact of rail companies and old oil kings being close knit.
I guess the idea was if you make it so we have to carry your product back and forth, we’ll only use your product on our trains. The concept carried over with pipelines, people with interests in both industries ensured that the IP and patents needed for mass consumption were protected to essentially create the need for pipeline infrastructure. Otherwise they would have just bought miles of land and shipped near complete product to shore instead of the current back-and-forth.
I’m paraphrasing info i heard 20+ years ago, but the general take away is: oil production is siloed so the rich could get richer.

I keep hearing from separatists how popular the idea is, but I’ve only ever seen one or two people at a folding table on their phone.
