“Dumb” agents given too much power could do an untold amount of damage already, we wouldn’t even need further breakthroughs. For example I can totally imagine that some degree of Ai control could act as a trigger for the Kessler effect, this is plausible today.

I think SK Hynix’s projection is incredibly naive. I’d be surprised if by 2028 the Chinese haven’t captured this market yet, inevitably impacting prices.
You don’t have to be an oracle to expect this, it is a fact that CXMT is already scaling up consumer DDR5 production. Yes they are behind in technology, but home users won’t care much as long as they can put them into their DDR5 mobos & run them in dual channel…
Anyway my prediction is that 2 years from now the prices will be significantly down, but still high compared the business as usual & the moment the bubble pops -if it does & not before 2029- prices will go down to what’s normal or even below normal for the larger sticks.

If you want to avoid ai assisted code your only chance is to build a new OS with a new kernel yourself.
No community distro has the capacity to fork thousands of packages and maintain them. That’s what a true no Ai policy would require. I also have to add that the Linux kernel itself would need to be forked and then maintained. Just the latter point alone is enough to make all this moot.
There are reliable and crap Chinese brands. This is not really relevant in this conversation. (plus manufacturing defects can go unnoticed with any brand) It’s merely a data point of one.
Sanity won imo. We can argue all day about what responsible Ai use is, but distro projects without allowing AI use at all and are serious about it are dead in the water. What are they supposed to d do? Disconnect with upstream?

Who cares if it gets it right 99% of the time? Who cares if the next model is 99.9%? It’s not 100%! That means it’s a ticking clock until something major fucks up!
This is a really weak argument. Getting right 99.9% of the time is extraordinarily good in many fields, superhuman even. The human brain is also a non-deterministic system. Surgeons make mistakes too, there is no such a thing as a 100% reliable human.
Imo AI is already super powerful in the flaky oracle role, maybe even in CS, but agents left to their own devices is not it, not by a long shot.
Don’t think out does or it should. Ethical concerns aside, it’s a very different problem.

It’s pretty easy to detect spam. I guess user reports and noticing when someone suddenly messages many new users and those users do not respond.
It’s not so easy, because you could even register a new account for each new spam message, or register 100k accounts & only send out 3 messages a day / account…
I think they are very impressive looking iconic cars in a vacuum, like DeLoreans. Everything else is really unfortunate about then, but imo the eyesore part largely comes from the -very justified- cultural baggage and pretty much that only.

I think rather than loans, the main problem is that usable higher education is absurdly expensive in the US.
The reality is that in 2026 over two thirds of the teaching effort that happens in a University is redundant. Colloquiums are a total waste of time when you could just record them once & give the students the recording, maybe occasionally adjusting it to curriculum changes every 2-3 years. The quality of the recording could be much better than a live professor as well. (no awkward pauses, no mistakes etc…)
Also outside of the most elite institutions motivated students wouldn’t really be much worse off than now, if the Uni only did examinations twice / semester & just provided or sold the learning material, or maybe not even that, just let the student self learn however they can from whatever they can & then test if their knowledge is up to a decently high standard. This would certainly work for the first 2-3 years of Uni. Of course whenever bigger student projects become inevitable, like from the 3rd year onward, more hands on interactions become a must, but overall I’m confident that education could be much much cheaper & more efficient and that before considering what happens if Ai becomes big in organized education.
Sure, I do agree with you that most people with no money, an average brain & mental fortitude would probably be better off, if they become plumbers, carpenters etc… Getting a student loan on an art degree without being supremely talented is insane & it certainly will have life ruining consequences. Though there is also enlisting to the US Army to consider when it comes to student loan talk…
