Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Chronic Illness@lemmy.world•What things do you do to pull yourself out of a negative spiral?English2·11 天前Regular psylocibin usage helps me maintain perspective a lot.
FYI it’s called Czechia now :)
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Antiwork@lemmy.ml•People call hard-work a ‘scam’ and no longer think it will lead to a better life2·14 天前I dunno, I think there’s an argument to be made that a life without some challenge, striving, and failure isn’t a well lived life, but I also absolutely think that societally mandated toil for 1/3 of one’s waking hours in order to survive is not the way to build a healthy relationship to that idea.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Antiwork@lemmy.ml•People call hard-work a ‘scam’ and no longer think it will lead to a better life21·14 天前Hard work for its own sake or for self-fulfilment is not a scam and can be very rewarding. Hard work as a means to escape systemic inequality and poverty cycles absolutely is.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which book(s) left a lasting impression on you?2·15 天前Time Enough for Love was my favourite book as a young man. Tried re-reading it recently and really struggled. I feel like the last 20 years of social progress has really dated Heinlein’s language especially (less so his ideas). Was a shame.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Movies@lemmy.world•What's a poorly received movie that you liked?English11·16 天前Joker 2 Electric Boogaloo. I thought it was well made, thought provoking, and a good critique of all the chuds who idolised the first film for the wrong reasons.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Games@lemmy.world•Nier creator Yoko Taro reveals the sad reality of modern AAA game development, “there’s less weird people making games”English4·24 天前The Alters just released, is AA, weird, and very good! Indies are definitely the home for weird experimental shit but I feel like there are going to be more strange, niche games being made for larger budgets as the AAA space splinters and devours itself.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: Non-violent protests are 2x more likely to succeed and no non-violent movement that has involved more than 3.5% of a population has ever failed21·29 天前This was going to be my counterexample too. Millions protested in the US, UK, Australia, and elsewhere before any troops were committed and it still didn’t help. I dont have solid numbers but I’d be shocked if less than 3.5% of people were involved. They were the biggest protests ever at the time.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is reason behind boom of onlyfans in usa?451·1 个月前The overt commodification of literally everything coupled with a general population struggling to make ends meet.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto [moved to piefed] movies@lemm.ee•'28 Years Later' Was Filmed Using 20 iPhones at OnceEnglish455·1 个月前I tried to watch it again recently and it looks like absolute trash. I appreciate directors being experimental but at least with old analog formats they scale pretty well with modern resolutions.
He’s sucking, not blowing.
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto World News@quokk.au•Hasan Piker detained at the border and questioned for hours over politics109·2 个月前Crazy that in his stream with FD a few weeks ago he was adamant that he’d be one of the last people impacted by the immigration/border control nonsense.
I think it just goes to show how, even otherwise well informed people, can underestimate how much fascism will impact them personally. It can be easy to distance yourself until it is in your face, placing you in cuffs, or forcible removing you from your home. I hope he learns a lesson from this experience.
For anyone who wants a non-shit version
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Cooking @lemmy.world•You're given a potato (any variety) to cook. You have everything in your kitchen. How do you prepare it?3·3 个月前Came to post almost exactly this
Sʏʟᴇɴᴄᴇ@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What were you surprised to learn wasn't actually normal?3·3 个月前Men can be great too, and being a man has lots of perks (beyond even those imposed by patriarchy). Look for allies and you will find them in all gender flavours.
In Australia we call it a long black. I think it’s a great name and wish it would catch on across the pond.
For me it was a combination of gaining true self-acceptance, recognising that there was the possibility of personal joy and fulfillment despite humanity being irredeemably lost, and starting to work toward long term goals.
Everyone’s experience will be different, but by focusing on myself I found that I became someone who was never alone because I found a rich group of people who shared similar interests and cared about me. If you’re feeling stuck in your own head I would genuinely recommend seeking professional help and think about trying Psilocybin as the mental shifts can be more profound than you might imagine. At least they were for me.
Seconding this. Came from using foobar on windows and strawberry has hit all the right notes. Great piece of software.
