Technology@lemmy.ml•42 years ago, this was state of the art copy protectionEnglish
28·3 days agoI remember a game (forget which one) that would ask which word was on a certain page in the game manual for its copy protection.
Might be helpful. Not sure if flatout is using ipx or not.
Oh also, one time I was in a 4 player demolition derby and we all chose the flatmobile. It was a map where it went to a ramp in the middle and everyone started out pointing right at it. We all just raced to the middle and simultaneously crashed and also crashed the game. I think that was the only time I witnessed the game crashing.
Sorry, just so many good memories of this game!
Sorry this comment won’t be helpful, but I used to install Flatout 2 into a WineSkin for MacOS and distribute it to all my students and we’d play it all the time. Such a blast.

Technology@lemmy.world•Proton's predictions for the internet, 2025 reviewed and 2026 projectionsEnglish
11·5 days agoWhich prediction are you referring to?
Milwaukee, WI to Lansing, MI. Has to go around a great big lake and back up.
Thanks. What I thought after reading the docs a bit. I’ll look at some more options. I’m looking for a solution that doesn’t rely on internet or other infrastructure likely to be targeted in an attack. Likely what I’m looking for does not exist or is not built out near me.

2·13 days agoI tend to disable all mitigations on my home computer. I can really feel it with gnome and fedora if I don’t. Or at least 2 or so years ago I could when I made the change.

2·13 days agoThanks for sharing. I have a T470 and was curious about this firmware. Why disable hyperthreading?
Software as a whole is getting overly complicated and details are commonly overlooked or missed. It sucks I agree.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Sometimes, my computer is very slow and sometimes really fast. Fedora 43.English
1·19 days agoI will share an issue I and others have with their laptop that presents just a bit differently (a single cpu pegged at 100% instead of all of them).
If i wake my laptop from sleep while it is plugged into an external monitor, I will have a single cpu pegged at 100% trying to handle endless acpi interrupts. I have to hibernate my machine and turn it back on to fix it. Alternatively I can unplug the monitor before waking from sleep to prevent it from happening. I just hibernate instead of sleeping now.

3·19 days agoCan you do screenshots with btop? Would be nice to see if the cpus are being throttled for temperature. I believe btop shows frequency and temp by default.
