As someone with a problematic relationship with alcohol, from a family of the same, i get addiction, but I don’t get gambling. The way it’s become normalized by society is so weird to me.

There wasn’t a light to see really, I thought he was an entertainer who was a bad in real life business man and found that entertaining. I had no interest in him as a political entity.

I don’t admit this much, but before trump ran for president I kind of liked him. He was a “bumbling, blowhard, failed business hack” that seemed to be a little in on the joke, The Apprentice, his appearances in WWE, he seemed like he was playing a character and playing up to how people perceived him… Unfortunately, he is just that and has no self awareness or shame, worse for some reason that’s still really appealing to a basket of deplorable people…

That’s how I felt about half way through the pilot, I said to my partner “I don’t think I can handle a grimdark trek,” but then they started introducing the actual premise of the show, how starfleet had a dark time, but was now rebuilding and reaffirming it’s ideals.

I personally liked the vibe, it felt hopeful. Dark times don’t last forever and things do get better, but still leave an impact.

There is still a utopia though, it has just been tested and they failed some of the tests and now they’re trying to rebuild.

It’s back to basics hopeful, a society trying to live up to it’s ideals again.

Unless it’s animated and even then depending on the art style, I can immediately clock the difference between 1080 and 720. It is another huge leap.

1080 to 4k though when sitting on the couch are basically the same.

it does because people read (and therefore do math) left to right. it makes more sense because it accounts for the fact that most people know how to read, but don’t know the operational order of math equations.

Those sentence are also perfectly understandable, once you’ve understood the order of the words, but they’re written in such away that you have to think about it.

If there are multiple ways to do things and one is more accessible to most people with less effort that isn’t the objectively right way but it is better.

Do you remember how this reply thread started? I literally fixed the equation so that it would be less confusing to people, I couldn’t do that if I didn’t know what order it was meant to go in…

I’m just not assuming that people are stupid because they got tripped up by something designed to trip them up.

It’s writing like this with math, you can find the sentence structure, but it makes it a puzzle people will mess up unnecessarily

Because this it’s trivial to write it in a way that won’t cause this confusion and yet every 3 months or so someone posts another one of these gotcha no context given equations and we as the internet have this same discussion again and again. It’s bait…
