So, as someone who is watching the entirety of DS9 for the first time… Spoilers? Lol. But actually, that made me appreciate the episode more.

I really like how this series evolves. The last three episodes were all really good. This DS9 homage felt great in a franchise which is very much TOS/TNG focused.

I did not quite get the “Thank you, Avery” in the end and had to check whether Brooks died? Is it because he retired?

I also wondered about the debate. As a German I know nothing about debate culture, and this episode did not help lol

I just think the show needs to be careful. I like that the stakes at the moment are low and personal, and there’s not galaxy threatening desaster (yet). I think the show would profit if they kept ist that way.

Everything else in this episode on what it means to be a Klingon was probably top 10 Trek for me.

Obviously, you need some disbelief for this kind of show. It’s also always the main group of people solving the problems, not that random dude in the third row.

The show just needs to be cautious with not overdoing it. This is the second major federation “crisis” solved at the school in just four episodes, while they should actually study that nebular or learn temporal mechanics

But Star Trek writers should come up with new ideas other than “our favourite alien race” diasporas. Will we have a Frengi diaspora next season?

I agree that the resolution to the conflict was obvious and it took the episode a bit too long to get there.

Not sure about the PD. I guess it is complicated by the fact that we are talking about the Klingons, a foe and friend for like a millennium. It’s hard to turn away from their struggle. But the federation comes across as if they’re not looking at Klingons on the same level. Like “look at this planet, it has lots of Vulcans, you will love it”, as if Earthlings would be happy if Klingons showed them a planet and are like “this place is 80% water, take it”. I know that’s not even discussed in the episode, but that’s, at least to me, a bigger point than what the Klingons bring up. Home is where the heart is? But then again, Klingons do what Klingons do, so yeah, let’s battle it out

That was a fantastic episode altogether. Loved it.

I agree that the resolution should be obvious, and after the Betazed episode, it is again ridiculous that political problems are solved at a school, but then again, it was ridiculous that Picard solved all problems in the galaxy.

I also like how this episode resolves why Klingons played no role in Discovery after the time jump.

The 1’s are just there to review bomb, and a lot of the 10’s probably to increase the rating. If you look at the other ratings, the bell curve looks to peak somewhere between 7 and 8.

It is polarizing. An average rating does not represent this.

Then it is still meaningless if 5 rate you a 10 and 5 a 0. What would this rating say about you?

I only got to know her videos after watching the 4 h dissection of SNW season 3, but her analyses (at least the ones I have seen so far) are very much on point. I love it. Far better content than that alt-right outrage about “pronoun Torpedoes” and “phasers set on woke”

not sure if it makes more sense, but it is at least one way how they got it. Even though I just find German info on the topic, and no English source … and no idea how reflux fits in. Vitus Dance was a medieval interpretation of epilepsy and related illnesses. Reflux means “backflow”. Maybe it refers to how the fungus talks back?

But I found that the name Vitus may derive from the word vita, and has been interpreted as “the living one”.

So first, Jay-Den is my favourite character. I would love to see some Klingon standup comedy lol

Besides the concerning number of shots with bare feet in them, I really enjoyed this episode. A true classic rival school plot! I particularly enjoyed that other people were at the center of the plot this time. The next episode is the Jay-Den one I think and I’m really looking forward to it

True, it shows real commitment. Still, considering that their original demand was “We want to have the right to reject any new federation member”, this seems a bit insignificant. It’s more of a gesture than anything, at least to me.

I am overall positively surprised. First of all. I like the setting. The Burn was one of the greatest ideas in Star Trek history (at least its implications, not its reason. I hope we’ll forget about that lol), as it shows how fragile the Federation truly was. So raising a new generation, based on values from centuries ago but that has lived a very different life, is a very intriguing setup. There’s still some stuff I don’t like about the era (like instant teleportation and that memory nano stuff), but let’s see how it works out. I like that Starfleet continued with a “War Academy” which was super fitting, and I can already smell all the conflicts between the two institutions.

The first episode was kind of so so. I understand that you need all that setup and background info, but I think flashbacks would have worked better. Don’t start with showing us the injustice, but leave us a bit in the dark. I pretty much like all the characters, but again, the first episode was a bit too much exposition on “everybody gets one small scene to show what they got”, only for most of them to blend in the background in the second episode.

The second episode left me a bit confused, as the Betazoids were a bit different from what I remember, but ah well. I found it weird that these official negotiations were fully made in front of a school class, with only one person of each faction involved? Imagine on earth, two leaders in a conflict met, each gave a short speech in front of a school, declared their demands, and then ends the meeting? Feels a bit weird. Also, while I enjoy the shift away from a Earth-centric Starfleet, are Betazoids really so vain that the shift of Starfleet HQ is enough to mitigate all their concerns?

Overall, I like what I see. I hope not every episode will be about Caleb’s mom, or his search, and I really hope we’ll also get a bit of everyday school fun. Weird comparison, but in Harry Potter, I enjoyed the everyday school stuff always more than the actual plot. And give me more of that Klingon (even though his voice modulation sounds really bad).
