Unfortunately it seems that evil has a way of sticking around for way longer then you’d expect, kinda like weeds in your garden.

Most of the accidents that involve serious injury or death involve cars or some other fast, motorized vehicle. Why not make more bike and pedestrian infrastructure? I also live in the Netherlands and even here I’d say there are very different approaches based on which city/town you’re in. I really wish they’d make my city more accessible with public transport, there are certain routes where taking public transport to another part of town takes almost 2-3 times as long as taking a car. Why is that? Why not fund public transport and non-motorized traffic infrastructure even more?

Nah not if you’re right wing. Then it’s one of the first places to start cutting budgets, together with Healthcare and elderly care. You want people to have less education, makes them easier to manipulate and keep under control.
Besides the one on the right the teeth are too straight for rural England.
I’d say that it’s not the media’s job to inform us anymore, it’s more to influence us and keep us docile. There are some small publications who still stick to informing people and telling the truth as objectively as they can but those are becoming fewer and fewer.
It sucks that it is this way but in a society where aunt Jo on Facebook can have a bigger audience spouting her nonsense then the local newspaper it is the way it is.

coyootje@lemmy.worldto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•The media blames the e-bike!: "Car crash that killed young boy started when e-bike hit car"English145·1 month agoLet me preface this by saying I haven’t read the article so i can’t say anything about this specific case.
As for your comment, I agree. It’s one thing to have an e-bike that goes slightly faster than regular cycling speed (20-25 km/h). However, where I live (the Netherlands) there’s have “fatbikes” now, basically the current generations scooter which is given to children at a much younger age and not regulated at all. No helmets, no protective clothing, no minimum age, nothing. Those things can go faster than 30 km/h and it’s somewhat common to tune them to go 40 km/h or more. That is a ridiculous speed for a 12 year old to take part in traffic with.
You’re going faster than a car driving to a neighborhood area here. There’s a reason why cars can only go 30 and somehow you can go 40? Add to that the brazenness of a young kid and you have a pretty dangerous cocktail. Fatbikes formed a large share of the traffic accidents last year and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of this changing with the government we have here being constantly in crisis or getting ready for another doomed election.

Dunno what it was like before this year (I hear the occasional one where I live but nothing too crazy) but I’m not sure how significant of an increase this is compared to last year or the year before.

Just go back to some of the older comics and adapt those. There are lots of older comic storylines that would be amazing to see in theaters but instead they choose to go straight for the modern comics that have led to a significant collapse in the comic book industry…

coyootje@lemmy.worldto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Another terrorist attack in Los Angeles. A man was intentionally hit head-on by a road-raging driver. The driver tried to hit him as hard as possible. English31·2 months agoI’d say you see the same thing with bikes, especially in the big cities. They cycle everywhere and go through red lights all the time. However, a bike is a lot less dangerous than a car (unless it’s an electric bike that can go very fast), which makes it slightly less of an issue in my eyes.
As a Dutch person, I’m very glad we’ve made this decision. After reading about Ireland doing the same I didn’t think we would but I’m glad that we did and also that we’ve decided on this somewhat early instead of waiting to see what the “bigger” countries are doing like we usually do with these things.
