I’m sorry for being a crucial person I think I have a lot of work to do in the morning and I will be there in a few minutes since I have to go to the store and get a new one of the kids and I will be there in about 10 minutes.

I’m like your friend, but my perspective is from the atmospheric sciences. The z-axis is anything vertical.

I wonder if all earth sciences are like this?

Other than The Picture of Dorian Gray, what would you recommend?

This was a great review, thanks for posting! I’ve been working my way through Pynchon’s works (currently in the middle of my last one, Against the Day) , and this was one of my favorite reads from last year. I agree with what you said about how both Mason and Dixon come to realize that they are in the heart of the beginning of America’s colonialist tendencies (and consequences thereafter). One of my favorite quotes comes straight from Mason’s mouth:

'Shall wise Doctors one day write History’s assessment of the Good resulting from this Line, vis-à-vis the not-so-good? I wonder which List will be longer.’

I also really enjoyed the surrealist aspects of the book: the flying mechanical duck, the talking dog, the journey to the center of the earth, and the mysticism of the American west, to name a few.
