TechTakes@awful.systems•US voters hate AI — and politicians are noticing
4·28 days ago@Th4tGuyII @dgerard @Bluegrass_Addict @timewarp @Cris_Color One of the things that irritates me about the AI situation is how many of the same people who absolutely screamed bloody murder over Napster and file-sharing in the early 2000s suddenly made a 180 and decided that copyright infringement is good and awesome now that they stand to profit from it.

SneerClub@awful.systems•shocked, shocked at all these *racists*
9·5 months ago@Catoblepas I loved Randall Monroe’s explanation that you could defeat the average robot by getting up on the counter (because it can’t climb) stuffing up the sink and turning it on (because water tends to conduct the electricity in ways that beak the circuits)

7·5 months ago@Soyweiser @swlabr Reminds me.of Nixon’s weird claim of being backed by a “silent majority.”
I’ve heard two versions of this from historians. One claims that he was deluded enough to claim that everyone actually secretly backed him and was just unwilling to actually say so for some reason.
The other said that he meant the dead, on his quest to throw more lives at a cause that has already claimed so many.

6·5 months ago@nightsky @Architeuthis Computer programs are generally written to be basically polite for customer service purposes.
A generative text program that opened chats with “Ugh, what do you want THIS time, loser?” would likely find itself …corrected… by the parent company on short order.

@sailor_sega_saturn @scruiser the rise of ai has taught me that while I can physically unplug the ai, it’ll lead to me being fired or even prosecuted for vandalism by some executive who doesn’t understand the problem. (Probably for the Upton Sinclair reason)
