In Japan I saw they put grids of lights down on the ground at road works. The lights move towards the driver in waves creating illusion of them moving much faster which cause them to ease back in accelerator. Genius!

@Showroom7561 @poVoq Speed bumps are becomming less effective due to the proliferation of off-road spec SUVs and Trucks as the family driver.

I used to live right opposite one and regularly saw these vehicles barrel over it at 3x the speed limit without the slightest hesitation.

@themeatbridge @Swedneck most families will find it hard to do without a car, but then most families (at least where I live) have more than 1 car. Rather than being a luxury the 1 car + N e-bikes setup is cheaper and often more convenient for local trips, which tends to be quite a significant proportion. We access school, library, pool, shops, doctors, cinemas, our workplaces etc via e-bike. With kids. Sometimes in the rain. Sometimes with a dog.

@const_void the school traffic situation was the tipping point for getting a #cargobike for us. Much calmer and faster way to do it, with opportunity for spotting and chatting about stuff going on in the neighbourhood. There’s the occasional poor driver behaviour that affects us but it’s quite rare compared what you get in the car.
