It takes a lot of inspiration from Disco Elysium, which is not subtle at all (and is extremely memorable for it). Having an election be a constant thing that you had to think about was an interesting way to work it into the world imo.

There’s an infamous Canadian serial killer, Robert Pickton, who was a pig farmer. Dude’s heinous so a bit of a warning if you don’t want to read about it.
It’s not a secret one at all as I based it on some existing seasonings but I’ve got a lot of mileage out of
- coarse ground black pepper
- salt
- cayenne pepper
- dill weed
- coarse ground coriander seeds
- garlic powder
I don’t have any smoked paprika right now or I’d toss that in too. Just grind the spices for a few seconds in a mortar and pestle. I’m pretty generous with the cayenne, say this ends up roughly 1:1:1:2-3:0.5:1 ratio, sometimes I add some red pepper flake too. The seasoning this is ripping off uses dill seed instead of dill weed but hey, use what you have right?

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes@lemmy.zip•[Discussion] What one small **change** would you make to a Souls game?
6·26 days agoFor one, mine would be
Put a bonfire in Lost Izalith
Put a bonfire in Lost Izalith or something like that. Bed of chaos isn’t hard I know but on a first play through especially it’s a slog to runback. Chaos covenant shortcut is ok but I swear it’s still up there in terms of distance.
Larger change would be do something with the area, I love that you can get glimpses of it from other places but it felt so empty when you finally get there.
I think your idea for one could make for some interesting runs for sure, for sure some would rush the dlc, but I think it could help flow too by letting you do less back tracking. Relevant to my above, I think I’d totally go that way after Quelaag.
Yeah I had no idea why that elevator went up to iron keep, even flipping it as like a descent underground or something could be cool too. For me, let me bulk turn in covenant items please, it’s just kinda tedious.
ER - more somber/ancient dragon smithing stones. For me, somber is more of an issue, 14 somber in base plus dlc sounds like a lot, and for most people it probably is, but there’s a pile of weapons in the game and sometimes it’s fun to experiment. I know you can just roll with the +9 just fine, still would be nice to have an option for more, DS 1 and 2 let you farm max upgrade materials so it’s not like it’d be new for the series.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has there ever been an industry that's been "enshittified" and then un-"enshittified"?
1·26 days agoData transfer is a mess afaik, big reason I tend to buy my cables in different lengths, if it’s long I know it’s for charging, short it’s for data. Some manufacturers do mark the cable ends with their capabilities (ugreen for sure does this, just checked my power ones are marked 240w and my data a marked 10Gbps), my stuff is mostly older though so I don’t have a bunch of different data speeds to worry about.
I’m with you though, I’ll take it over a bunch of different proprietary cables.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•I'm looking for a free OS, should it be Debian or Arch Linux(community)?
11·1 month agoI use both, debian on servers and old machines, arch on my desktop. Arch being rough is way overblown in my experience, the install script makes it straightforward to setup and it’s been pretty much painless since I switched to it two years ago, I had experience with debian before that. Both arch and debian have fantastic documentation available.
Debian and derivatives, in my experience, are really well supported so that’s a plus. Age of packages has never really bothered me and cases where I want bleeding edge there’s options for that.
Both are solid options and I don’t think you’ll be upset either way, if you can I’d try both.

5·1 month agoMy partner got me one of these pill popper things (amazon link is the best I could find, sorry) that gets around having to fill it myself. Yeah you have to remember to mark the day but it works well for me, was that or one of those timer lids as there were definitely days I missed doses or weren’t sure if I took my meds and didn’t want to risk double dosing.

Games@lemmy.world•So Lemmy, what are your thoughts on Mixtape?English
141·1 month agoSaw someone describe it as 90s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and that was enough for me to pick it up. It’s short yeah but to me it’s a good example of games as art. The music choice is integral to the experience, I really enjoyed it and have been gently suggesting my partner play it.
I don’t pay attention to the people who yell woke at everything, what’s their issue this time?

2·1 month agoThe og did all of that through haptics, it worked really well. don’t see cutouts in the case for a speaker and I didn’t see any mention on ifixit, feel like valve would have listed it in the specs.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the deal with AI datacenters using water for cooling?
4·1 month agoAnd even for fresh water, you have biofouling to worry about and what to do with the water after you’ve used it, can’t just dump it into the environment untreated.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Why aren’t there more PC-first gamepads? Valve don’t know, but they "did see an opportunity" for the new Steam ControllerEnglish
3·2 months agoThat was one of the really cool features of the OG steam controller (and the deck too but I don’t use as much), pads can totally be setup to emulate a trackball and the haptics were weirdly good and giving you feedback. I found it really solid for games like warframe, that and gyro aiming (which I’ve never gelled with on the deck) felt pretty solid to me.
Otherwise, the trackpads can be used for things like rotary menus too which I definitely get a lot more use out of.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Health Canada approves 1st generic version of Novo Nordisk's Ozempic
7·2 months agoAlso respectfully, there’s a lot of things that compound leading to obesity, we (as a generalisation) seem to historically treat it as if it’s a some sort of personal failure rather than a condition. Would you have the same concerns about smoking or alcohol cessation drugs (which afaik ozempic actually does help with the latter)? Food addiction is a thing and we have poor mental health support. The people I know on ozempic talk about it being a life changer for them (which I understand, vyvanse did the same thing for me) if only to help shake their addiction to enable them to make lifestyle changes.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Upgrade SSD or getting a big SD card?
2·2 months agoIf you can swing it, Sabrent makes some nvme enclosures for the 2230 size the deck uses https://sabrent.com/collections/nvme-enclosures/products/ec-ne30 that are super reasonable price wise, https://sabrent.com/collections/nvme-enclosures/products/ec-snveis for full size and is also super reasonable. What I did for mine and my partner’s decks upgrading from a 512 GB ssd, if you have drive space you could do with one enclosure. I use the old ssd as a removable drive now so it doesn’t got to waste.
Ssd is the way to go for sure, SD card is nice to have but it’s very noticeably slower for some things, I tend to use it for emulators and games I don’t play frequently.

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes@lemmy.zip•[Discussion] Which Soulslike will you be playing this weekend and which Soulslike left you disappointed? Why?
6·2 months agoFor me it was Sekiro. It just didn’t click for me for whatever reason, maybe it was the deflection heavy combat but I really liked other deflection heavy ones like Nine Sols, might give it a try again from the start, that worked for me with the original Dark Souls.
I went back to play through 2 and 3 after having played DS1 and ER a bunch, finished 2 last week and been working through 3 this week. 3 feels shorter to me for some reason. Keep meaning to go back to a ng+ run of Another Crab’s Treasure since they added new stuff for that last year.
I feel this, and I swear half of what I print are just mods for my printers.
We’ve gotten really, really good at extracting energy from steam, steam turbines can be incredibly efficient, I can’t recall exact figures but Wikipedia cites 90% as the top end.
Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of it for two things.
First being sqlserver, though that’s been able to run on linux for a long time now, there’s a bunch of features not supported but not a deal breaker for a lot of people, I haven’t encountered ssis or ssas in years for example.
Second being Internet Information Services (IIS), which some people really seem to like.
Wouldn’t be surprised if active directory required a windows machine either, definitely a bunch of cases I’m not considering or aware of but I’m no sysadmin.

Oh it hammed it up for sure, to me it added to the charm but I can totally get if you weren’t expecting it in the setting.
