From my studies, I remember that solar systems have some kind of identity card based on the % of atoms and isotopes (versions of an atom with more or less neutrons).
The bigger the atoms the more exceptionally energetic the process that created them needs to be: normal star, big star, supernova, neutron star merger… Also some specific isotopes can be created by some processes and not others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nucleosynthesis
So one part of the universe where a solar system formed may not have seen the same atoms creation processes as another, so their detailed compositions are different.
Cosmo chemists analyze the compositions of meteorites that formed at different times to try to understand the history of our solar system. For exemple, they may find that this isotope could not have been produced by our sun’s birth, and it must have come from a supernova or very specific kind of star. https://www.quantamagazine.org/what-crystals-older-than-the-sun-reveal-about-the-start-of-the-solar-system-20260302/They make our origin much cooler by looking at space pebbles.
According to this recent post it seems one brave developer just made the microphone work with PMOS on FP6 and it does not yet work for calls. It looks quite far from being ready for the average user. https://ani.social/post/33936031

Buy European@feddit.uk•Poland: Open source becomes part of country's public policy for the first timeEnglish
8·2 days agoNice!
First in Poland I guess? In France the law has been recommending free (libre) software since 2016. https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/article_jo/JORFARTI000033203039?__cf_chl_f_tk=yzR2MPbsCVt32fwygGRZDXWF5.V_82j7xN_IdXDA7F4-1783478568-1.0.1.1-QOtmq1R3kQ5SJmXYYSb9Nd7DJ5jbTNAHtSaRfMibRtY
Based on this law, there is a reference catalog of free software recommended for the French administration. https://code.gouv.fr/sill/
I guess other EU countries have similar things.

Technology@lemmy.world•Switzerland bolted 5,000 solar panels onto a dam wall 8,000 feet up in the freezing Alps. The plant now makes three times more winter power than any farm down in the valleysEnglish
2·3 days agoWhat’s your source? Solar panels certainly are much easier and cheaper to setup, but what about over 40 years (average age of reacrors in France)?

World News@quokk.au•Russian Retailers See Horse Sales Surge Amid Worsening Gasoline Deficit
2·3 days agoTo give another point of data.
People walking pilgrimages like El Camino de Santiago de Compostela routinely walk 23 km (14 miles) per day for multiple weeks. And those are people in all kind of shapes and ages, including slow walking grandparents. Trained people can do twice more.
Humans are really good at long distance, not just athlets. Modern life made us forget about it and anything longer than 5 km sounds impressive.
I hate when people refer to things from before 1750s as classic.

12·3 days agoFor the same cooling reason some places have been covering irrigation canals with solar panels. The water cools down the panels and it reduces water loss through evaporation.

10·3 days agoI’m confused by the albedo argument. The reflected light would need to reach the solar panels, but the panels are facing up. So how could a surface of ice/snow be sufficiently facing the solar panels to reflect a significant amount of sun light towards the panels?
Edit: nevermind, using my hands to draw imaginary angles, I’ve concluded it can work with a facing normal white slope for some sun position if the orientation is favorable.
If they state an error margin of ±2 cm, I may allow it.
What about going to the thermae and an olive oil scrapping?

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that there is now a huge online archive of videos/photos detailing the genocide in Gaza.English
271·4 days agoFor those who are scared to click the link, I have tried to find who they are and found this about:
Witnesses of Atrocities and Genocide We archive what others erase. Permanently.
We are a group of researchers dedicated to archiving war crimes footage from Gaza and the West Bank. Our team submits all evidence to the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Hind Rajab Foundation, and the South African legal team at the ICJ. If you’d like to contribute or join the effort, connect with us on Twitter or Telegram.
Tech companies are working overtime to censor and delete content from Gaza. We are doing our best to archive it before it disappears. You can browse the documented footage in the Archive, and download the complete raw source collections from the Downloads page.
In the sources, they link to various independent-looking channels and pages.
It’s hard to judge from this.I’d like to see various reputable international newspaper (not all of them are controlled by the USA/Israel) confirm the quality of this work. In particular, how they confirm the authenticity of the documents, which is tremendous journalism work and not for the faint of heart.
