  • You mocked them, I’ll call you stupid for it. You claimed they reduced heat transfer rate, which is false. The answer is in the article you linked.

For Artemis II, it would return through Earth’s atmosphere at a steeper angle, spending fewer minutes in the environment where this outgassing occurred during Artemis I.

This change is a perfect example of engineering research. Artemis I was within the expected boundaries of the heat shield material. It performed worse than expected, so they adjusted its heat exposure rate based on the actual outcome. The guy in the article seems to not understand that this is a huge part of actual engineering.

I’m a mechanical engineer. The article is mostly fluff sucking off to the rich guy you quoted.

Wrong. No oxygen is left so it can’t burn. It exits the exhaust as unburnt fuel exactly as you stated in your original comment.

Extra fuel in a diesel cycle is used as coolant just like in any of the gas cycles. Gas is see through when it vaporizes, diesel isn’t. A turboed gas engine rolls coal too but it only smells bad if it lacks emissions systems.

I hate rolling coal but running rich is used to protect an engine under high power output conditions. Mostly in forced induction setups. Extra fuel lowers cylinder and exhaust temperatures because it vaporizes without combusting, pulling heat out of the air fuel mixture during the compression stroke. Leaning out too much is death to an engine.

I think there is also a cooking skills gap no one acknowledges. For example tofu is way different than chicken/beef/pork. Scares a lot of people away because poorly cooked tofu is 100x worse than poorly cooked meat.

Our family eats about half vegetarian because the cost difference is still minimal and variety is fun. Animals are also way more evil than most people realize. Cows are basically the only one that won’t eat it’s friend when they are bored. Not saying it justifies earing them, but I’ve never understood why vegans put animals on a pedestal.
