This is really worryinng, I was talking to a friend at the weekend and mentioned this exact scenario… As Linkedin is becomming a monopoly on being able to find work, they have you by the balls if you go against them in any way. Very dangerous to mix a job board with what is now a fully blown social media platform, one which srems to share the same policies as the likes of Youtube on how it bans its users!
If ever there were a case for forced interop this would be it.
Good luck
It’s a strange beast, i feel like I’d like it as alow powered desktop substitute as it’s too powerful/draws roouch power to be used in place of a microcontroller. But it’s not got enough ram to act as a useful desktop either. Probably just my own usecase, but 16GB would be perfect
i wish they’d make a verson with more ram!
If you’re not happy with the software there’s a good chance others are also dissatisfied and van make the chage, this happens all the time. Perhaps some of them are children without a full time job and don’t mind spending time understanding something ;-) The point I’m making is that the users of the software have an additional option not available to closed source software.
And at any time you or someone else who is likewise pissed off can fork the software and put it straight
I may have xome later to both, I find either very usable + no ads
And you’re stuck with potential security issues/missing regulatory chages, lack of new features…
Like Lemmy is to Reddit, FOSS clients are to paid alternatives.
The only way I can see to stay clear of business practices I don’t like is to support the FOSS model.
I’m not saying Sync isn’t a good client, or that the dev has anything other than the best intersts of his users in mind, it’s that at any point a decision can be made which you have no control over. Service models for software, for example, very rarely seems to be in the users interests.
Give the FOSS clients a shot, they are also constantly improving!
what an amazing post! thx
Great story!
Saying that I don’t think it’s a good idea to mix FOSS with other political causes. It seems to be a newish trend which I think risks the FOSS movement. I shouldn’t be trying to force my views onto other developers, with the exception of the license variant.
I also find it very unlikely that someone having issues with Twitter is going to find any more joy using “Twitter” by another name, by another giant tech company
I’m struggling to think of a reason that Meta is implementing ActivityPub protocol in Threads. There are a couple of possible reasons:
What I can’t figure out is how they intend to make money while allowing external instances access to the content? After all, any client could be used to strip out ads. It just doesn’t feel like it benefits Meta.
It leaves me a bit worried that they intend to divert the protocol in some way.
So they dodge tax, sell things for less than market value, spend billions on advertising, have little regard for law… sound familiar? I guess the real issue is that it’s not an established player in this space!
All of these problems are fixable if you’re wiling to have your own corporations bound by the same laws. Start by not allowing products to be sold at a loss, making large corps pay the tax they’re due, obey the law in regard to data privacy…
By allowing corporations to write the law they’ve inadvertently allowed foreign players to play them at their own game. This kind of company would not exist in a health market.
