  • as someone who has worked in the tech field for well over 20 years at this point this is going to be a very controversial prediction and I imagine many won’t agree with me but LLMs, at least in their current state, will go the way of the buffalo.

I’ve seen many tech fads come and go, library fads, device fads, concept fads, product fads, etc, etc, etc. in their current states many companies are now realizing that AI isn’t speeding up their processes or production. What they see now is that they’re slowing things down and creating massive tech debt. “Vibe coding” simply doesn’t work and anyone who does it consistently at any company should be immediately fired. Many places are now hiring contractors to fix their AI created tech debt and I see that as a sort of temporary field to get into for freelancers. Advertise your services to repair damage done by AI. You’ll get work. I get emails weekly from my contacts looking for someone to go into a place and refactor or replace what someone has “vibe coded” or simply allowed an AI to go buck wild on their base.

I see it pivoting away from tech things and focusing back on content creation. writing scripts, blog posts, ads, producing images and films, etc. Writing code or solving tech issues it has, across the board, gotten worse at. But even I’m not so sure about the content creation or it being a “digital assistant” there’s A LOT of push back from the average user and consumer right now that simply don’t want it.

I’m probably one of the few people that believe this but I feel they’ve just gotten worse and worse and people are now starting to wake up and realize they’re all collectively shit and a waste of time and resources.

  • if you utilize it as a tool it’s fine. it can be a good rubber duck or github copilot saves you like 2 seconds to just hit tab to complete something that’s correct in the preview. But utilizing it to do anymore than that and you’ve lost. Claude will constantly make things up or tell you to use libraries that have been orphaned for like 5+ years.

anyone who says “it can help you write better code” are fooling themselves. I’ve yet to see it.

  • Claude AI does this ALL the time too. It NEEDS to give a solution, it rarely can say “I don’t know” so it will just completely make up a solution that it thinks is right without actually checking to see the solution exists. It will make/dream up programs or libraries that don’t and have never existed OR it will tell you something can do something when it has never been able to do that thing ever.

And that’s just how all these LLMs have been built. they MUST provide a solution so they all lie. they’ve been programmed this way to ensure maximum profits. Github Copilot is a bit better because it’s with me in my code so it’s suggestions, most of the time, actually work because it can see the context and whats around it. Claude is absolute garbage, MS Copilot is about the same caliber if not worse than Claude, and Chatgpt is only good for content writing or bouncing ideas off of.

  • I use github copilot as it does speed things up. but you have to keep tight reins on it, but it does work because it sees my code, sees what i’m trying to do, etc. So a good chunk of the time it helps.

Now something like Claude AI? yeah…no. Claude doesn’t know how to say “I don’t know.” it simply doesn’t. it NEEDS to provide you a solution even if the vast majority of time it’s one it just creates off the top of it’s head. it simply cannot say it doesn’t know. and it’ll get desperate. it’ll provided you with libraries or repos that have been orphaned for years. It’ll make stuff up saying that something can magically do what you’re really looking for when in truth it can’t do that thing at all and was never intended to. As long as it sounds good to Claude, then it must be true. It’s a shit AI and absolutely worthless. I don’t even trust it to simply build out a framework for something.

Chatgpt? it’s good for providing me with place holder content or bouncing ideas off of. that’s it. like you said they’re simply tools not anything that should be replacements for…well…anything.

Could they slow people down? I think so but that person has to be an absolute moron or have absolutely zero experience with whatever their trying to get the AI to do.

  • not sure if it was “big budget” but Madame Web.

It was, essentially, a Spider-Man prequel that simply didn’t need to happen story wise. It introduced a bunch of characters from the comics that do indeed have Spider-Man like powers but in the film they simply “suggest” it. You had a villain whose entire purpose for doing what he did was he had a dream where said “spider people” killed him. You had Uncle Ben shoed in to simply say to the audience 'hey, HEY ASSHOLE! look…It’s a Spider Man Prequel!" and THAT was the ONLY connection to Peter Parker.

It’s like having a Star Wars Prequel where Uncle Owen is in it and he’s hanging out with a bunch of people who could potentially be Padawans but we’re not sure and they’re being hunted cause some random Sith had a dream that sure, they could potentially be Jedi one day. Now none of them actually are but they COULD be one day, just not in this movie.

  • at this point we don’t have the luxury to debate on where to put shelters. The homeless population has doubled in the span of a couple years and that’s ONLY the ones that are counted i.e. shelter intakes or people they can find sleeping on the street. it doesn’t take into account the ones not counted which I suspect makes the numbers a hell of a lot higher.

I volunteer helping homeless individuals and weekly it’s new faces, A LOT of new faces. more women than ever before, more middle age and elderly women. hell just more elderly people in general. The trend is clearly evident with new homeless individuals. just way more women, elderly people, and Indian immigrants. And quite frankly I’m honestly surprised the whole system hasn’t collapsed in on itself yet. We don’t have enough food to feed people. the portions we provide for meals within the past couple years have gotten A LOT smaller. we simply don’t have the resources and we’re to the point of begging for them and begging to deaf ears.

Shelters are full and consistently full on a nightly basis. Call central intake is just a waste of time and has been for the past few years. There’s no spots available. and usually in the warmer months spots free up because people opt to sleep outside, not anymore.

We need more shelters and we can’t debate on where to put them. if the concern is garbage, needles, junkies, etc then I’m sorry but suck it up buttercup that’s the result of a failed system and a government be it municipal, provincial, and federal failing these people. I mean Ontario Works just hands out $343 a month now and no longer meets with anyone or provides resources. It used to be you’d talk to your case worker every couple months. now? now I know people who haven’t been contacted by their case workers in half a year or more. Just make sure they let them know on a monthly basis they’re not making income so they can get their $343 cheques which will pay for maybe a weeks worth of food.

Shit isn’t going to get worse, it is worse. At this point it’s not going to be fixed, not within our life time. So you’re going to see more homeless people. I imagine in the next year the numbers will double again and it’s not going to surprise me if by the end of 2026 we’re at 50,000 homeless in Toronto.

  • As someone who used to be an Assistant Manager at Blockbuster…keep that thing dead and gone. Like as a consumer, sure I get it, but working there absolutely sucked. No one remembers the late fees or the fact Blockbuster would send you to collections for ONE late fee (like a whole $3.25) and then send you those bullshit cards in the mail letting you know that you owe them less than $5? yeah I remember cause on a near daily basis I’d get someone in the store yelling at me that they’re trying to get a loan or a house and this little card is fucking it all up for them. MOST of the time the late fee was because the absolutely ancient computer system we used that they never updated…at all…since the 80s…would skip barcodes randomly on scans. That or some vengeful employee at another store would just manually add fees to someones account (yes that was possible, yes we could just add fees to random accounts willy nilly)

also my District Manager was a douchenozzle. Mike, rot in hell.

  • Qutebrowser is my main and Lynx is my “feed” browser. Qutebrowser you don’t need anything else. it just works and you can script the thing to your hearts content.

For a long time I was using Floorp, and while I like floorp and the dev team behind it, I just stopped using it as my main. Sure it’s a fork of firefox and they’re at the whims of mozilla which lately has been clearly evident with the slow updates to floorp.

Qutebrowser just works. The dev for it is a nice dude who is easily accessible for help. the community for it is also very helpful. the integration with things like greasemonkey make scripting and customizing anything so painfully easy. I mean there’s a great script for it right now that completely 100% circumvents youtube ads and it’s been working for months straight without any need to update. It also meshes extremely well with my Bitwarden.

I’ll never use a different browser again.
