The passkey won’t work on a lookalike phishing site, but the password and totp can be inputted into it

That makes a lot of sense. And on the password manager, you have to click through the “use password on new website?” security dialog so often it becomes a nuisance warning and wouldn’t protect you from a phishing website, since you’re so used to clicking through it.

I am thwarted all the time by having many passkeys enrolled in the password manager, all named “passkey”, because the website kept prompting me to make more whenever i logged in. Yet the website still prompts me to “input your security key”, ignoring all the saved passkeys.

Is TOTP always phishable? Like the phisher says “tell me the code in your authenticator app”? But can’t say “tell me your passkey?”

This kind of explains to me why passkeys are so annoying – they are designed for if you’re always going to be using the same device all the time.

I wish password managers could hold passkeys reliably – they keep failing for me.

Something interesting happened where I worked a little while ago. We had a phone in the lost and found that stayed there for, I kid you not, a whole month. The whole time I was like, how did somebody not realize they lost their phone right away?

Turns out it belonged to a kid whose parents limited their screen time on that particular device anyway, and they hadn’t realized it was missing for a whole month.

There’s a guy who has one near me who prints out a lot of custom 3D printed things for it – most recently, TPU soft cushion things for his legs to press against for better steering.

It seems like fun, but for me I’m not sure what benefit it would have over the electric kick-scooter for my needs.

• Scooter is lighter (~30 lbs) which makes it easier to carry up stairs
• Small enough when folded to fit in a trunk or under a bus seat
• Enough range for a full day of commuting a few miles / up and down hills*
• Very economical
• No modifications needed

*I wish it had enough for two full days. Range is my biggest issue with the scooter.

What puts the electric unicycle higher up in the rankings for you?

I agree with you in general – if you are a slower vehicle and you start to accumulate a “tail” of faster ones trying to pass, it is common courtesy (and sometimes legally required) to pull over when safe to do so to let other vehicles past.

I noticed in this clip, the car only had to wait about 1:35 (after starting to record) for the cyclists to find a wide spot and switch to single file to let them pass safely. Less waiting would be better, but waiting 1-2 minutes to pass doesn’t strike me as unreasonable or unusual on a 1 lane road.

One time i was driving and stuck behind a cement mixer going 30 mph on a 45 for 10-15 minutes before the road widened, and that did feel unreasonable. But the cement mixer also didn’t really have a choice – there were no pullouts on that road either. The only way it could have let others pass would be to come to a complete stop in a turn lane or driveway or something and then try to start again.

I don’t think that ditch the car pointed out was sufficient for the cyclists to pull out into, except in emergency situations.

Most roads where this is to be expected have either paved pullouts or something.
