It’s really not, if anything French and English should be reversed. You can generally know how a french word is supposed to be pronounced when reading it (assuming you know how to read French, of course), in English it’s a complete crapshoot

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do non-English speakers learn to code in English, or in their native language?
1·22 days agoJust because some keywords are in English doesn’t mean the code is in English, variable names, function names, and comments could be respectively in latin, Russian, and Klingon.

Look up how many heatwaves happened in France during the 20th century, and how many happened in the last 10 years. Yes, weather on any single day is not climate, but we are quite past “oh heatwaves happened before”.

World News@quokk.au•British Charlie Kirk wannabe beaten up debating people in Manchester
9·2 months agoHe’s clearly an advanced scientific mind, he made the hypothesis people wouldn’t fight for what they believe in, and was proven experimentally wrong. He should be grateful for the data point and update his beliefs accordingly. Though in good scientific practice I’m sure he’ll replicate the experiment.

7·3 months agoI get it’s a joke, but people who live in Paris proper have some of the lowest car ownership rate, and it’s been diminishing still: 46% in 1990 to 34% in 2019, as opposed to more than 80% for the whole country
