I assume they are not paying for the lyrics, but for the access to the api. The lyrics are also timed to the music and the service they use might do that for them. So, like you say, serving lyrics data costs very little, but that is not what they pay for.

I’m torn about my personal opinion about copyrights and software licensing in general. I think the main problem is the huge power imbalance between people and corporations, not so much the fact a company analyzed a bunch of available data to solve programming problems.
They don’t copy the data and sell it verbatim to others which would be a legal issue and in my mind also a moral issue, as they don’t add any additional value.

I had a clear ice phase and it’s kinda nice. Too lazy to do it nowadays. I didn’t want to pay for any overpriced kits so made my own. Made a somewhat big ice block in a box and chopped in to pieces. Chopping them up was always really satisfying. Bubbles were concentrated at the top, but to bottom half turned out nice, and I use the less perfect pieces for other things.
