We just brought back a peck of winesaps from western NC! My wife makes the best pies with winesaps!

We just came back from western NC with a peck each of Pink Ladies, Staymen Winesaps, and some Braeburns. We were too late for the Honeycrisps. Oh yeah, we also got a dozen apple donuts, a dozen apple fritters, and 6 apple muffins! Yeah, Barber’s Orchard got a fat wad of our cash :)

we’ve just been filling ours with the black sunflower seeds instead of the mixed stuff. Instead of raking out everything to get to the sunflower seeds, they just hang out and eat. Plus, me and the dogs have a lot of fun running them off. It’s turned in to quite a game. Some of the smarter squirrels notice me spotting them through the windows and haul ass before I can make it to the door. Sometimes they’ll have a lookout posted while them buggers are hitting all three feeders at once. Unfortunately, we haven’t been seeing nearly as many here lately tho. We just went through hurricane Isaias and I’m afraid it hurt our squirrel population. We’ve got trees down everywhere :(

yeah I was kinda surprised by the brand, but it was what they had available as non-smart. I won’t brag about the quality, because when I first plugged it in, I was really disappointed by the sound quality. Tinny and not much volume. I figured out that the right speaker wasn’t working, and instead of sending it back, I hooked my boombox I listen to music with up to it and it sounds great.

I bought a Westinghouse “non-smart” TV for my workshop, which is out of range for our wi-fi. I have an antennae for over-the-air TV and no internet back there, so I wanted something that just comes on and plays without having to go through menus and shit. 32" for $149 through Mal-Wart™. I have a TCL with Google TV in my den, but it has a bug where it won’t stay connected to the wi-fi, and I’m cool with that…

middle school, 1970’s NW Florida… our phys. ed. field would flood out pretty bad whenever it would rain a lot, so on those occasions we’d have a free period to just screw around and socialize. On this particular day, me, a scrawny little bug-eyed ginger kid who got picked on pretty regularly, was being chased by a group of other kids who really wanted to torture me some more. I decided to veer off through the knee-deep flooded PE grounds, which allowed me to escape my tormentors, but also gave me the opportunity to learn first hand that fire ants do indeed float in large masses, and are quite eager to swarm up on the first thing that gets within reach.
