I think there’s a substantial difference between the imaginary aggression towards, say, Christmas and the intentional, targeted, and systemicly induced destabilization and attempted eradication of disabled, trans, and poor people by this administration.

I think that’s a huge source of disconnect with Gen Z. I don’t think they ever had a concept of dark humor.
I mean, I dunno; I think you’re right in the sense that Gen. Z doesn’t do edgy humor nearly as much but they are still known for irony poisoning and I think you get similar outcomes, just (now) with the veneer of there being, really, a truth to what you’re saying.
“Helen Keller didn’t really do all that” is squarely a Gen. Z “joke” with just as awful implications as dark humor.

In one study, men who believed they had received testosterone became angrier and more aggressive during a task — even if they’d only received a placebo. Their expectations about how testosterone “should” make them feel seemed to drive their reactions more so than the hormone itself.
A similar experiment with women found the same result, but in reverse. Those who actually received testosterone (but weren’t told so) behaved more fairly and cooperatively in a bargaining game, while those who merely believed they had taken it (but had not) acted more selfishly and aggressive.
Yet another deficiency!

This may be stupid of me to ask but did you scroll down? I thought the same thing, at first, before realizing the initial text was not, in fact, the text that was supposed to be worse.
I enjoyed the first two but the third felt like a massive regression in ways that didn’t feel remotely justified, considering the first two avoided it.
The turn-the-lesbian-straight trope somehow felt dated even in a 2013 movie (if we put aside how repulsive it is, on its own). https://www.charlottenash.net/blog/2013/09/15/poor-representations-of-women-in-sci-fi-films-riddick-vs-pitch-black sums up pretty well how unnecessary of a let down the whole thing was.
Fun fact: Akin apologized in the aftermath of those comments (while he was running for reëlection, of course). Then, two years later, decided it was worth publicly rescinding that apology.
