  • I work in live events. A few people have mentioned it. But it allows the band to have a quick bathroom break/regroup. Sometimes, venues have noise curfew so it allows the band to end the show early. Other times they have to loadout fast due to venue scheduling. Then not always, but often it allows the crew to reset lighting and other gear for the cues during the encore set.

  • Its a catch 22.

    1. Hop over to GrapheneOS, you’re losing support later this year.
    2. If you stay on stock android, you lose support later this year.

In my head, assuming you don’t need any stock android apps or apps that run better on stock android (banking apps)

I would say install GrapheneOS. It’s about 20% more efficient than stock Android. Sure it’ll lose support soon, but by default it’ll be “more secure” than using stock android that is outside of its support window.

You can probably squeeze another year or so out of it before it starts to get weird with old OS and new apps.

  • Sounds like you already know what you have to do, you just have to do it.

In my own de-googling I’ve learned the more you de-google, the more perceived “conveniences” you have to give up. Unfortunately, there really aren’t a lot of all in one NFC payment solutions on F-Droid/Foss.

LineageOS is good enough for privacy/security assuming you practice good digital hygiene. Its kind of a double edged sword there.

A cool bonus with foss apps and OSes, is generally, their software are more optimized and not resource hungry. Meaning, you can run older devices without any issue. You could probably find an older pixel and run Graphene on it no problem.

If you want to completely de-google, you have to leave their walled garden behind. There isn’t really a one leg in, one leg out solution.

It’ll be awkward and frustrating for a couple of months but then you’ll never go back.
