News@lemmy.world•School district makes dramatic U-turn on AI, banning it across all grades weeks after Google Gemini rollout
6·17 hours agoactual instruction from someone with actual expertise aka teachers,
A lot of students just do not see the value or outright dismiss the expertise. Why have mommy and daddy pay 60k a year (if you’re lucky) for some egghead to tell you about the Cold War when Gemini can just do it for me? Or: I’m here for a real degree (STEM), so I’ll just make the AI do all my non-STEM, commie liberal homework. It’s useless anyway. These attitudes are sadly not uncommon, and it’s this exact line of thinking these AI-pushing scumbags want. Generative AI is, I would argue, deeply anti-intellectual, which should be a huge red flag for anyone even partially invested in this larger cultural conversation and moment.
edit: re: 60k a year – this is a huge fucking problem that students feel like education is a waste of money, but that’s another rabbit hole and topic. Education should be free and student debt should be forgiven, but nah keep making drones and bombs.

Oh, I wish. You can’t keep most of the higher ed students away from Gemini and Claude. It’s especially bad with the students who mistake learning for rote memorization versus attempts to encourage critical thinking and use of methodology. I can’t be too candid here, but my god the cheating is also extreme, to the point where many students should have never been admitted because their grasp of the English language is so subpar. And I don’t just mean international students who are ESL, either. It’s become so pathetic Harvard had to bring back the fucking bell curve.
To add insult to injury, had I turned in the shit these students get A’s on at my R2, state undergrad school, my assignments would have been thrown in the trash. Not following directions, no formatting, zero care. But then the students riot when they earn a B and probably cry to Gemini. I blame the grade inflation during COVID for a lot of this, but students cheating with AI (because that is all it is) has absolutely exacerbated the issue to a very frustrating degree.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s LA and San Diego comments ‘dangerous, if not treasonous’, says Newsom – US politics live
8·3 days agoCalifornia lives rent free in so many MAGAts brains, and the rage comes down to one of two scenarios. One, never been to California (or visited a long, long time ago) and just assumes it’s a Mad Max-esque wasteland except with more Gay Communism TM. Two, adores California and won’t fucking leave, see Vance and the fact he’s always lurking around So Cal because his wife is from northern San Diego county. The irony is the further you get from the coast the redder and more MAGA California becomes, and boy does it get weird and extreme at times (OC’s ‘Orange Curtain’ being one exception re: coastal blue cities). Something tells me California MAGAts are fine with daddy Trump making these comments. The boots don’t lick themselves.
no, because these .pdf files contain reading material with cultural and educational merit and therefore would actually get banned, unlike the other PDF philes :(

8·4 days agoi was advised once by a nurse to call an ambulance for myself, but i was so afraid of the cost i ended up ubering to the emergency room. i was in serious pain but i didn’t think i was going to die (and i wasn’t), hence what may seem like a stupid choice. the hospital stay still ended up being $700 dollars after insurance.
Ah, lucky. I love the $35 million dollar, 10k horsepower vehicle. Mine didn’t have a food car but train commutes are my favorite commutes. The Providence line was cursed though, always getting stuck or trolled by another train and therefore delayed. For hours sometimes :(
the secret is living way the hell out of the city and spending 1+ hour commuting in on the 300k vehicles that pick you up
haha, thank you. I try!
it’s a type of egg pasta with a lot of regional variation. i tried making the milquetoast butter version once using a Spätzlehobel (to make the noodles) and it was terrible :) :) i wonder if i still have that thing somewhere
i’m only familiar with the butter version, never seen the green one before until now.
i’m telling mom😠 😠 😠 😠 😠 😠 😠
this is the truth. it’s awful and even worse re-heated. heavy cream and melted velveeta ‘cheese’ is the best simulacrum sauce.

don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll be punished accordingly by being forced into the Time Out Zone (an inflatable bounce house on the White House lawn).
