  • Because high speed passenger rail requires three things that don’t exist in the United States.

1.) Long-term planning 2.) Coordination among different communities 3.) A desire to invest in people’s wellbeing

We are in the ‘pieces are starting to visibly fall off this thing’ phase of societal collapse. That means that, while we’re still rolling down the road, there is a largely un-acknowledged awareness that the car isn’t making it all the way to the destination. As a result, people and institutions are all acting in their own short-term self interest.

  • “It’s uncertain whether the cameras will continue recording after the agreement expires.”

I just realized that these cameras likely continue to operate and violate our rights after these cities terminate their contracts. The city I live in did this a month ago. Everyone, including myself, were very satisfied that we pressured the city council to do this despite pressure from the police department and some local businesses. A month later, the cameras are all still installed. I re-read the proclamation from the city and it says nothing about disabling or removing the hardware. It only says that our cops can no longer access the data.

This is some diabolical bullshit, and people need to realize this.

  • I have found that children don’t need lies to comfort them. By nature, children are curious and crave understanding. It’s important for parents to respect that and equip them both with what we already know, and the skills to keep exploring. Engage with them, help them understand the questions, feed their innate sense of wonder. Eventually they’ll teach you a thing or two.

I find no comfort in implausible lies, and I feel a need to help my kids avoid that discomfort. I also want them to have agency in life, so they need to understand how such lies are used by society to try and control them.
