Isn’t it cheaper to harvest organs from cadavers instead of spending millions in figuring how to put pig parts into humans? Then you ask why US healthcare is so expensive.
Once a kidney loses blood pressure, it quickly starts to degrade. Better to implant working kidneys than a failing one.
There just aren’t enough deceased donor kidneys available and folks spend a long time waiting for them, particularly considering how some of them only last a matter of years before they’re back of dialysis.
DaVita would be happy to see this abandoned though.
