The military technically removed the President from control after January 6; it is the reason that all former Secretaries of Defense signed on to that letter after January 6 to provide the military cover for responding and likely not obeying Presidential orders.

Now combine that with Trump getting the military trapped in a forever war and appearing incapable of providing decent civilian leadership in the process. Worse, Trump’s actions are likely going to lead to a withdrawal from several theatres of war and that’s going to lead to a weaker peacetime military. And there is nothing that Trump can give the military that the military actually wants.
