Recently it has come to my attention that the instance where my account is located rammy.site has been taken over by right wing bigots from the site exploding-heads they have created many hateful communities and have started posting transphobic content and climate denial. There’s also quite a bit of community spam on here.
I very strongly advocate that the admins of this instance defederate from rammy.site as soon as humanly possible to stop the spread of their toxic shit to other instances.
Right-wing losers = forum cancer.
I took a look and it’s like 3 people yelling into the void over there. Hardly worth all these defederation posts I see. Just block and move on, no?
IMO if the admins have obviously abandoned an instance it’s worth de-federating regardless of activity level or political lean. It’s a ticking time bomb for malicious links, spam, political trolling, and other bullshit.
I just looked at the instance list and they’re literally federated with burggit.moe so yeah I would definately describe this instance as a timebomb very much worth defederating, there actually aren’t any instances blocked on here on rammy which seems nice until you realize just how many known awful ones there are that are connected and accessible to rammy.
This shouldn’t even be something being debated, the instance is abandoned, people are posting hateful content, and it’s federated to the worst of the worst instances on the fediverse.
Ya, I can understand that argument at least. The OP gave me “people are saying mean things over there and I don’t like it” vibes which just feels cringe.
Things that amount to “trans people shouldn’t exist” or “trans people shouldn’t get medical care” are more than just “mean”.
Eh, I see a lot of hostility and threats that are allowed so long as they are against the correct groups. Less hostility all around would be nice; thicker skin helps bridge that gap.
Reading the comments section of any right wing forum is always… Eye-opening.
They turn on each other as soon as no one else is around to attack. Good riddance.
We should create a publicly maintained list of instances people should defederate from.
I think you can see this list on each instance. It’s not a central one, but it’s a start.

Whoa!
I saw your comment and thought " I don’t remember writing that…" then saw the domain lol.
How do you like the instance you’re subscribed to?
I used a bot to subscribe to a bunch of instances so I’ve got a bunch, it’s pretty good, I’m enjoying finding alternative apps and websites for things I use . How Nout you?
Nice!
I like my instance, but sometimes it gets overloaded. I guess it’s a good thing in a way since more people are subscribing and being more active.
Ran across one of their posts on the local feed here and I have to agree, we should defederate.
Seems the have been defederated because I can’t seem to reach the site through the instance search
Have not been defederated, they’re not in the blocked section on the instances page.

I haven’t seen anything from that instance, and I am not going to go there and see for myself because I don’t seek out sources of outrage. Defederation seems like a drastic first step.
It’s not drastic considering the circumstances, the instance is unmoderated their admin isn’t available, that’s as good a reason as any to defederate them. The instance also doesn’t have a blocklist, it doesn’t block any instances it’s also on outdated software and being unmoderated that is a recipe for disaster.
Fair enough.
Seems like a huge step like defederation should be reactive instead of proactive. If rammy or any other instance becomes a source of spam or abuse here then it makes sense to defederate. But I don’t think it makes sense just because they have some controversial users or communities but are keeping it to themselves. (btw rammy.site appears to be down)
Go look at what they’re posting and then come back here.
When I go there the newest post is 2 months old. Don’t think it’s relevant?
The top two posts are 2 months old because they’re pinned by the admin - but below those you’ll see the newer posts.
