Voters thought the faltering president was too old, but allies looked the other way, advisers defended his abilities and the Democratic Party boxed out other candidates

How?
Well - he started old, and as one does, got older.
That’s very easy to say in hindsight, you can’t really predict that sort of thing.
This but seriously, as there is a high chance you’ll die at that age.
This article is like 10 days old but feels like it’s about a year out of date already. What a whirlwind.
It truly does feel like it.
DNC putting their whole ass on the scale for candidates?
At least they pivoted before we got locked in with a horrible candidate. Unlike last time, Hilary.
I truly believe this was calculated. It never would have happened if they didn’t schedule that debate so early. Imagine this happening mid September.
Calculated, but epically backfired. The point of the early debate was to nip all the ‘too old to run’ discourse in the bud, but it did precisely the opposite.
I just think the opposite. I think the people in charge knew he shouldn’t run because of his age. There was a report that Obama and George Clooney had serious concerns after some fund raiser which led to Clooney writing that op ed after the debate.
If he gave Obama and Clooney concerns, I guarantee there were more people before that that had concerns.
Epic Miscalculation
Maybe it was 11 dimensional chess.
