the big stickied thread is getting cluttered with lots of new people and the “how was your week” thread isn’t a great fit for introductions, so it seems about time to make this a dedicated thread of its own so peoples’ posts aren’t getting lost.

tell us a little bit about yourself, folks. don’t gotta be too specific or revealing, just whatever you want to put out there. this’ll be a good way of getting to know all the people you’re now on here with

I’m Hyperz and I come from the land of waffles, chocolate, fries and beer (Belgium). Was a reader of Reddit for about 15 years and a member for about 11 of those years. Before that I used to be very active on some niche forums until Reddit went Pac-Man on traditional forums. With the way Reddit was going the last few years, and especially now with the incoming API changes, I’ve decided I don’t want to support that anti-user platform anymore. I’m glad I found out about Lemmy (can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it before!) because not only does it look like a viable alternative to Reddit, it also brings back some of the aspects I’ve been missing from the old forum days.

Hi everyone! Just your friendly, vegan anti-natalist here and also someone who really looks forward to using something that simply can’t be owned by some corporation. Pronouns are they/them .

What are some of your biggest reasons for being antinatalist?

I’m a parent, but there’s a lot of merit to the arguments of antinatalism, and I’m curious to hear your reasoning for it. I struggled a lot with the moral implications of becoming a parent, and the book Debating Procreation: Is It Wrong to Reproduce? was a fascinating read for me.

Pregnancy eventually ‘happened’, and we decided to give our shot at the parenting thing and to do our best to give our child the best life they could have, and it’s been a challenging, yet fulfilling experience thus far for us.

I still agree with many of the arguments put forth by antinatlists, though.
