I’m so excited for this reboot! I watched the classic anime over 20 years ago, right as I was moving to Japan, and it was my introduction to anime.

My only hope is that the series has an actual ending this time. Rumiko Takahashi (the original manga creator) has a nasty habit of refusing to resolve relationship drama in her works. She feels like the story will end if people actually admit their feelings for each other; she claims that the “will they/won’t they” drama is what keeps people reading/watching her works. So she drags out the drama as long as she can, then just ends her series without actually resolving anything.

I think she had a hand in this reboot, so there’s a very good chance the love triangles (love octagons?) will never be resolved. Still, seeing a classic work (with the original Japanese voice actors!) be reborn in modern animation style is exciting and I’ll definitely be binging this show when it airs tomorrow.
