In fairness, “western values” - whatever that is - and the physical appearance of people are two completely orthogonal things. Nobody should be judged on their appearance.
In other words, those two are infuriating ultra-right-wingers who happen to look very odd. There’s also plenty of them who look totally normal.
My point with that is the MAGA pretense of “RETVRN to tradition” and Hellenistic statues and Mad Men business suit aesthetics doesn’t quite line up with the actual VIPs showing up.
It’s like how Hitler and his cronies didn’t look much at all like the propaganda posters they put out.
Well, the MAGA prophet himself claims to be at the peak of physical fitness despite sporting quite a sizeable lard belt and nobody seems to bat an eyelid or burst out laughing when he says it. He also says a lot of alarming things that his followers actively claim they didn’t hear.
So ignoring the obvious and thinking thoughts that contradict reality seems to be a common theme in that particular church - like in all churches really.
