These articles written GOP propagandists always leave out some important details:

    • Property taxes are horrendous in TX - especially in the DFW area that the article mentions
    • DFW is the fourth largest metroplex in the US and it feels like it - it takes two hours plus to get from one side to the other
    • It’s trashy as fuck in TX because nobody gives a fuck
    • Summer is 9 months and you get a bonus heavy mosquitoes with all of the diseases (zika, west nile, etc.)
    • But, don’t worry, the houses are poorly built with craptastic insulation, so with climate change you’re actually getting cold enough temps in the short winters now to freeze the pipes.
    • You don’t pay income tax which means you have sub-par sidewalks, if any at all. It’s entirely too dangerous to ride a bicycle anywhere other than trails. The libraries are lethargic.
    • The same thing is happening to real estate there that the rich perfected in CA. Gone are the days of an affordable home in TX anyplace even remotely close to work.
    • There are two types of homes in the DFW area - those with foundation problems and those that will have foundation problems. Enjoy that.
    • Like hail and tornadoes? The area gets both in significant quantities.
    • Hope you like paying a lot for insurance… between legitimate hail claims and the rampant fraud, insurance is expensive and is going to have a massive deductible on your roof.
    • Likewise, hit and runs and uninsured motorists are a daily thing. Your auto insurance is going to cost you a ton.

Wasted 3.5 years in that state that I’ll never get back… At this point I would choose CA over TX every single time.

It sounds like you might have bought the lie once until you understood reality. Congratulations on getting there, I mean it.

It was just an employment choice and necessary evil at the time. Doesn’t change that I hated it there and was thankful when my circumstances allowed me to move, again.
