“Rigged election” and all associated searches don’t return results. It’s not just Trump.

Tiktok is ruined. I never used it, didn’t like that it was being banned, but perhaps this was part of the deal they struck to get unbanned.

I guess just use a VPN and pretend to be from Mexico. There’s some irony in it. Or better yet, not use it at all.

but guys, I’ve been assured by Lemmy’s most vocal tiktok supporters that tiktok is the last bastion of free speech. it’s a place where you’re free to express yourself without restrictions.

are you telling me that tiktok lied and those poor people were just paid troll accounts?

This is new, after the blackout. People from the U.S. get a message when searching for things like “vagina health” or “rigged election*”. The rest of the world gets results normally.

That was before the blackout. Now a new TikTok has taken its place and everyone is talking about it on there.

When was the last time you made this query? Did you only attempt it recently? Because it looks like TikTok is also blocking searches that make Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Bugs Bunny look bad too.

It turns out its Rigged Election that can’t be searched.

    Please do better validation.

Question is, how long has this been the case? If <rigged election> only got banned after they were unbanned in America and Trump became president, it is functionally the same thing.

No one knows. There is no evidence this was searchable before the shutdown. Zero. Combating misinformation about the election has been going on for years on social media. This measure is most likely been in place to stop people from spreading misinformation about him loosing in 2020.

Besides, the ops title is a flat out lie. You can search disfavorable things about trump on tiktok in the USA.

I’m fine with agreeing that there is no way to be sure if this is a recent change. But I’m not going to agree that it was probably in place since 2020, as there is no evidence for that either. I can’t afford them the benefit of the doubt when they’ve openly praised Trump already. I actually find it quite unlikely that TikTok as a platform would give a shit about combating misinformation about America in America.

It’s all just guesses at this point.

Why wouldn’t they? In 2020 Trump signed an executive order in an attempt to get TikTok banned. After that is when we had Trump fuming about a rigged election and the events of January 6th, which were all over every social media platform. On their “Combating Misinformation” page, they talk about election integrity several times. Most social media have a misinformation policy since 2016 because there were questions about that election too. It’s incredibly likely this has been in place since 2020.

I’m suspicious that the ban would have been upheld if everyone jumped over to Twitter. But the scam failed when everyone went to red note.

I think it’s because you uploaded (or at least formatted) it as an inline image so when you changed the title the url was replaced.

Edit: lose the leading “!” if you want a clickable link with your chosen text, or leave it there and remove anything between “(” and “)” to have the image appear in your comment directly. In both cases you want the url between “[” and “]”

!()[url of image you want to appear directly in your comment]

        or

!(text you want)[url of image or anything you want to link to]

That’s disfavorable of Trump? I thought it was one of his main talking points.

I guess it would be disfavorable if it referred to 2024 rather than 2020, but claiming 2024 was rigged doesn’t seem to be a big thing so I expect that most of the search results would have been about 2020.

I mean that is a pretty shit conspiracy theory.

Searching “Trump Election Lie” does return results. So I don’t think they’re actually censoring so much as stopping real misinformation.
