Fuck me capitalism is broken. Being able to trademark a generic term is ridiculous in itself, but then enforcing that trademark to fuck over businesses that were using the term before your company even existed is fucking abhorrent.

    If European countries can have their stupid fucking “geographical indication” trademarks why can’t we do the same? Stop some American company using a generic Australian name to the exclusion of Australian manufacturers.

      I totally agree with you that it should happen that way, but that’s not what’s happening. The American company will get to use the UGG name worldwide while Australian companies will be prohibited from using outside Australia and NZ.

        Yeah, I know that’s what’s the case at present. I’m saying the Australian government should step in and say “fuck that. Geographic indicator. If you want your champagne or shit to be protected here, you can’t allow Ugg from America.”

    Small side note, but does anyone else dislike how the word ‘invented’ is used for new fashion? Like, no, that’s not what an invention is.
