Texas-based power company offers cost-effective solution to Houston’s power woes
The company’s silent and odorless batteries turn on instantly when the electricity goes down, powering your home for up to four days depending on usage.
HOUSTON — From the devastating winter storm four years ago, to the impact of Hurricane Beryl, Houstonians know all too well the frustration of losing power for days at a time. But now, a Texas-based company claims they have a new solution.
This solution, they say, is not only easy to use but also cost-effective.
Mark White and his family moved to their Katy home from Minneapolis 21 years ago.
“We’ve suffered through some pretty big hurricanes, that knocked power out of for 3 or 4 days at a time,” White said.
Knowing the crazy weather the Houston area brings, White bought a generator for home.
“I think that it was great when it was brand new. You stick it in the garage for a year or two before the next one, and then all of a sudden didn’t work. I had 6 or 7 people try to get that thing working. So yeah, that was one and done,” White said.
White began looking at new ways to keep the power on when he and his family needed it most, which led him to Base Power.
“We’re a first-of-its-kind home energy company. Some people think about it as an electric generator, so it serves the same purpose. It keeps your home up and running. It’s significantly less expensive. It’s significantly easier to operate because you don’t have to do anything,” said Zach Dell, CEO and co-founder of Base Power.
Dell told KHOU 11 News his company’s silent and odorless batteries turn on instantly when the electricity goes down, powering your home for up to four days depending on usage.
As for when the power is on, the company said it can lower your bill because it shares your battery power.
“We charge these batteries when demand on the grid is low, so midnight to four in the morning. When demand is really high, we’re pushing power back to the grid to support the grid in those times of high demand,” Dell said.
Dell said this system also beats other options like solar systems and generators in the price department. It costs $16 a month and $495 to install. Dell adds that the company is erasing the $495 install fee for the first 500 Houston customers.
