I mean compared to the competition, Nintendo has made lower spec games for lower spec hardware since like twenty years now (or whenever the hell the Wii came out)
I’d say it’s less that Nintendo intentionally made lower spec devices, it’s that microsoft and Sony decided to make giant loud frankenstein hardware designs.
Come on that just ain’t true. The last two generations of consoles have all been extremely “reasonable”. Off-the-shelf hardware all on one chip, designed to be profitable to sell from day one at the same price they always tried to sell their consoles at. They are just small computers, exactly where all of hardware tech is at right now. None of them are like the PS3, which actually was a ridiculous overspecced stupid piece of hardware born entirely out of grandeur and delusion.
If you want to criticize these consoles and their makers for continuing to make the exact same games as they’ve done since the PS3 days, then that’s a totally reasonable argument to make, but to me that also doesn’t apply to Nintendo. If anything they’ve been getting the most out of their hardware wherever they go and have been trying to evolve their gameplay with the hardware: BotW could be made on the Wii u, but not on the Wii, TotK could be made on the Switch but not on the WiiU, and it doesn’t seem to me like they could have made the new Donkey Kong on the OG Switch.
