Nightreign kinda’ scares me, I’ll be perfectly frank.
It’s hard not to look at it as a response to Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2’s success as online comp-stompers. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, FromSoft always put out at least thought-provoking and engrossing (if not downright brilliant) games in terms of mechanical refinement and gameplay.
But that stench of chasing trends is all over this project to my nose. Add to that Bloodborne’s doomed console-exclusive future (which is a decision I still thoroughly cannot comprehend, because it sure as hell isn’t driving console sales anymore, not even with the Remaster), and I start getting worried about the possibility that FromSoft will end up as just another name on the memorial wall of nuked game developers…
Bloodborne may be console exclusive on paper, but emulating it on PC is a trivial task.
It is?
Feel like saying it’s trivial seriously undermines the amount of struggling and effort that it’s taken to get it to the point it’s at. The Duskbloods might be different, but then it’s just a whole different can of worms dealing with Nintendo’s lawyers.
IDK, it doesn’t take much to follow a guide.
I never disparaged the talented programmers and support folks that have figured it all out. I was mostly saying because so many talented folks have collaborated together, we can easily emulate these games.
I knew this was gonna be the trajectory after Elden Ring got the general gaming public’s attention. Now mainstream success has gone to the Executives heads and we’ll only be getting watered down multiplayer and games as a service from FS.
I don’t care so much that it’s multiplayer, but that it’s a Nintendo exclusive. This will be the first modern FromSoft game I’ll skip.
I’ve never really engaged with the multiplayer in any of the Fromsoft games. It’s not why I pick them up.
That said, I’m open to waiting to learn more before deciding if I’ll get it. Or maybe I’ll have to see how Nightreign plays first.
ER was a lot of fun in multiplayer, especially with Seamless Coop, but I’m pretty wary of anything that’s exclusively multiplayer. Not that it matters anyway because I never wanna give Nintendo another penny.
If you mean Night Reign: It does have single player. It’s “multiplayer only” in the sense that even in single player, you will have NPC cooperators.
Vaati has a video detailing the game from his time in the playtest.
I didn’t know that - that’s reasso. No, I meant Duskbloods. Given its apparent PvPvE nature, I’m wondering if the game will be playable exclusively online as kind of a life service title or not
I didn’t watch the Nintendo thing so this is the first even hearing of Duskbloods, but after seeing the trailer… It looks like Nightreign, but for Bloodborne’s world instead of Elden Ring.
I was already on the fence with Nightreign, but seeing them working on two things simultaneously that look so similar and have the same PvPvE gimmick is cause for concern.
Neightreign is only PvE, not PvPvE.
I also think both these games are smaller projects, especially Nightreign. I wouldn’t expect these to replace traditional souls games.
I hope this and nightreign isn’t the start of fromsoftware dud releases. No one else hits the soulsborne genre just right.
Lies of P is hella good, as is Lords of the Fallen. Aside from minor little differences, they feel super close to a Fromsoft game.
