According to MA, Red Squad was relatively new in Homefront. Maybe it was created in sweeping changes after Wolf 359 to counter new threats. Since it was never really mentioned ever again after they all died when Watters went bonkers, Starfleet could’ve nixed the idea altogether. Especially since half of their actions was taking orders from a badmiral attempting a coup
I will never understand Starfleet’s decision making skills when it comes to the academy. Like, basically, I can only assume given the whole red shirt thing, that half the point of Starfleet is to deal with overpopulation.
