Purely punitive. They haven’t raised the federal gas tax since 1993 or adjusted it for inflation, and the federal highway fund is set to dry up in just a few years. So in response they levy an outrageous and disproportionate tax on 2% of drivers rather than across the board.

Removing the $7,500 tax rebate, stopping the EV charging station expansion, removing emission rules, levying this tax, and then having the nerve to say it’s about “fairness.”

I own an EV, and with how little I drive, if I paid a gas tax it would be literally $25 annually for me.

The oil industry cannot survive if EVs become too popular.

Gasoline is almost half of every barrel of oil, and completely covers the cost of the oil, especially when oil prices are low like it currently is.

Gasoline so vital to the oil industry that they spent billions on trying to find things that they can make from crude to get people reliant on, so as to have just that little bit more leverage if gas consumption is ever threatened.

In the rest of the world, it doesn’t matter as much. Public transportation, bike paths and walk ways are already a thing. Gas is much more expensive in those places already. America roadways were designed to consume gas, great amounts of it.

The EV is and has been their worst nightmare.

A real government would just make it based on mileage and weight regardless of how it is powered.

How long before Musk agrees with the cons and starts making gas powered teslas?

Seems about right for the ev hate from those bought by big oil.

They should just make a fee for all cars and call it a day. They won’t, but they should.

Fuck cars. Non-drivers are the most exploited by these privileged planet-destroyers.
