Kari Lake, a special adviser to the body that oversees the government-funded VoA, announced on X that One America News (OAN), which was sued by voting machine companies for promoting claims of election fraud, will provide “newsfeed and video service”.
“Every day I look for ways to save American taxpayers money. Bringing in OAN as a video/news source does both,” Lake said. “OAN is one of the few family-owned American media networks left in the United States. We are grateful for their generosity.”
Known for her shenanigans, this isn’t necessarily unexpected. But the net result is going to be biased “reporting” spread across the world under the guise of freedom and liberty. Lake stands for neither of those things.
It’s frankly impressive that a former journalist could go this wrong. Not that the local CBS* (then KTSP) affiliate in Phoenix was ever really known for great journalism in the '80s, but hey, that’s TV news for you.
*KTSP apparently rebranded as KSAZ in 1994, and after a brief period of nonaffiliation switched to being part of the Fox network. But Phoenix TV stations in the '90s were a bit of a shitshow. KTVK (channel 3) lost its ABC affiliation, which ended up at the former Fox station (channel 15 – risky, as that placed them in UHF), I think CBS landed on channel 5 from 10. The only constant was NBC on 12 (notwithstanding PBS on 8). Probably useless trivia, but it’s good to be familiar with what happened to U.S. TV broadcasting in the '90s. As a family that just wanted to watch certain shows with dinner, the whole thing was rather confusing.
Deck chairs, anyone?
Big shock there. Ministry of Foreign Propaganda using right wing bullshit for their Propaganda?!
