When you’re terminally online and interacting exclusively with other terminally online folks…

As someone whose affinity group irl is mostly anarchists, I feel like anarchists on Twitter are just significantly more centrist than anarchists irl

I know a bunch of anarchists IRL and they only slightly rib me and take some ribbing back about our ideological differences. It’s more fun to talk about destroying our shared enemies and admitting just going with what works is the best strategy, not being too ideologically pure.

Same here, I know MLS, demsocs, anarchists, etc. We all mostly get along and as you said anytime we make digs about one ideology or another it’s always mostly in jest or good faith criticism.

Yep, I think anarchists have definitely nailed down the street politics that the communists have lost over the past century. Any socialist movement in the west will rely heavy anarchist organizing for conflict and radicalized trade unions that will probably end up shifting more towards what we’d call ML though likely in a newer form.

The old divides are gone, AES has shown a thousand possible pathways to development and maintenance of a revolutionary state and in the end whatever happens will inevitably come from the conditions of the revolution and the conditions of the economy in the revolutionary state.

I don’t even understand the stereotype. “Globalists” is a right wing dogwhistle for “jews”. I’ve never heard leftists use the term derogatorily. If we wanna talk shit about western hegemony or NATO, we use those terms directly.

There actually used to be a coherent leftist stance against “globalization” in the 90s. Like lots of protest movements, but that was much more focused on opposing things like corporate personhood, NAFTA, international debt schemes, stuff like that. I remember being in leftist chatrooms in like 2003 and they were talking about “globalism” but they meant the IMF. Leftists now seem to prefer to talk about that stuff in a broader context of imperialism.

Anyone now though using the term in a derogatory way is a deranged conspiracy theorist talking about Jews or they want a fascist world of nationality based on race.

The Battle of Seattle. Do you all really have memories that short? Seattle burned over NAFTA. Jello Biafra had an album called “No to WTO” or something like that.
